After ham fisting[footing?] a first to second shift at redline I wonder how tough the gear dogs on this bike are . I know my old FJ1200 could take the abuse-I hope the FJR can too. Did Yamaha undercut the dogs for us? I've done gear swaps before and would rather not!

I believe there have been at least two members that have reported 2nd gear dog and/or shift fork failure. One IIRC occured recently and with low milege (5000 +/-). Try 2nd gear failure on the Tech/Mech Forum page 2.
