Well, that should make the conversation interesting at Alice's then I suppose...
Well, keep in mind that I don't know the scheduled time of day (PDT), so you're on your own if you're going to be blaspheming. Also know that after leaving Alice's, you will be riding through what some have called the fornication capital of the world, aka, the "Gay Area." Them are sins for those of you who are either not in the know or are willful sinners.1

This has been another informational post of the NorCal FJR full service ride planning association. ;)

1Of whom there are several, judging by the posts about lodging in this thread.

Mark, I have an extra bandolero of Viagra I can bring along for you, let me know if you want me to bring it over from Zonie Land. jes' sayin'
Sorry Don, I have no idea what that stuff is...everything seems to be in working order and standing tall at attention whenever the need arises. But thanks for your misplaced concern. :p

I bet Arizona and Howie's Florida is the mecca for that stuff.

Those passes clear yet Rich?

We won't have any trouble doing the back way (Old Hwy 40) route up and the lap around Tahoe, with one possible exception. In the last few decades, I have not seen old 40 from Donner Lake to Sugar Bowl (Donner Pass Road) closed that time of year, but it might be this May.

I'd be shocked if Ebbetts Pass (4), Sonora Pass (108) or Tioga Pass (120) are even close to open by the time you get here. Monitor Pass (the southern most and eastern most ~22 mile section of 89 just west of Topaz Lake MIGHT be open, but even that's uncertain. 89 through Lassen Nat'l Park will be closed.

Most of the Sierra foothill roads lower than 5000 feet should be open. Mormon Emigrant trail (between 50 and 88) will be closed, as will Wentworth Springs Road between Ice House Road and Eleven Pines Road. Not sure about Mosquito Ridge from Foresthill all the way to Eleven Pines Road and Wentworth Springs Road (there's at least one high section south of French Meadows Reservoir that could still be closed due to snow).

Highways 20, 49, 50, 80 and 88 will all be open, barring a freak late season snow storm while you're here. Same with 89, with the exceptions mentioned a couple paragraphs above. All the roads over in the Coast range that you have in mind to molest from the Fortuna camp (36, 299, 96, 3) will be open, unless a storm comes through whilst you're attempting them, in which case, the summits could have new snow on the roadways. Some of the lesser known routes (e.g., Forest Service Road no.1) between those major roads will almost certainly still be impassible due to snow drifts near their summits.

Yep...sounds like a grea time. Looking forward to the NorCal/Sierra segments of the ride...even if there's a bunch of snow.

Hope to get lots of pictures of the riders and our surroundings. Hey, I never know when I'll be back, so I've got to get those photos... :drinks:

Can we still do 120 between US 6 and 395, did that segment couple years ago. A definite repeat.

Psssst, if you know don't tell Wheatie why, want to be able to yell surprise at the end of the run.

Should be able to. It's the summit and near summit road elevations that pose the biggest problems for clearing the roadways sufficiently to open the passes. Tioga (120) is 9,945 feet, Sonora (108) is 9,624, Ebbetts (4) is 8,730, Monitor (89) is 8,314. Carson (88) is 8,573, but it's kept open year round, so there's less to dig through once it stops snowing. Snow pack is reported to be 177% of average so far this year in the northern Sierras.

Well, it's coming on 5 weeks until blast-off from midwest central. I still have to get some things sorted out on the FJR...that, parts issues, and bad weather have meant minimal riding this spring...taking the first trip down to the metropolis of Moonshine, IL this weekend.

Since griff has had to cancel, I'm thinking of a new theme for this trip. At MM2's request for T-shirts for this rolling event...I'm thinking that the following will have to do...

Gomer and Goober do California...

No offense Wheatie (I hope none is taken!), but I really think that Gomer and Goober are way too high class for You and airboss. Folks, pictured below is Wheatie on the right as Steve Martin and airboss is on the left: Yez ze are!

Hey! who's the sneaky that got a picture of me in my PJ's

Hmm, I think I just figured out why I don't sleep to well.

They're just hoping to meet some of those Big Breasted California and Canadian Foxes.

Mike, I fixed it for you; You're Welcome! Since they were in High School, I don't think that anyone with 20-20 vision has ever accused Tyler or Barb of being flat-chested!
