Glad you got your bike running. Sounds like you never looked at s7 and s8? My s4 was fine, but my headlights failed due to a failed s7 spider. You can read my story By Clicking on this link and also see what a burned spider looks like. Please make sure to post in that thread and report the issue to the NTHSA if you end up finding a spider failure other than s4.

Harald:

You are right, I never looked at the S7 and S8. In the future I might if any other problems pop up. I feel the lights will be OK with Road Runner's cables. I did file a report with NTHSA, the number is (ODI 10454813). I was more worried about the pannels and felt like the back taps of ground would handle things.

Thanks

Oh yea!

I have a 2006 / 60k miles and got spider bit during the MD2020.

According to one Yamaha mechanic, the spider in question for my bike isn't one that's covered in the recall. It's up front under the nose.

I lost:

- Headlights

- Turn Signals (sort of, they worked but were very unhappy)

- Both dash lights (turn signal indicators were lit).

- Lost windshield up/down functionality.

- and the bike would ONLY start, in gear with the clutch lever pulled, after 'cycling' the kick stand.

Of course this happened in the middle of a rally and I feared the worst. Left the bike running all day because I was afraid to turn it off. At the rest bonus I tore into it to check the spiders in the upper left corner of the bike and verify my HID (high beam relay) connection which were all good.

Bike survived the rally and I'll tear into it this week.

Expect to find one of the spiders in the nose is cooked and I will *finally* install my Brodie harness while I'm in there. But according to the guy that wouldn't have saved me for the particular spider in question.
