Gday guys,
I've just finished repairing my subframe for the second time. I highly recommend you use one of these kits if you don't have the Givi 357. I probably would have used one if they were available at the time.

That is a great weld job.... the person who did that knows what he is doing.

the person who did that knows what he is doing.
I agree that he is a good welder, but, he does not know how to fix it. It was not reinforced and will most likely break again in the same area if the rear rack is loaded as before. Welding anneals and weakens the metal next to the weld.

Installed Stiffy today. Easy Peezy... Slipped right in and tighten down. Nice piece of work Gary!! Thanks

Stiffy installed last night.

Right side tightened down just fine, contact between stiffy and subframe, left side has a gap, the width of a penny, between stiffy and subframe.

Inserting a penny and tightening down seems to remove the play.

Do I have a problem or will this be ok?

Just me, but if it needs a penny on one side it needs it on the other. Errors of a penny's thickness are amplified as you move away from the error.

Installed the kit today, have a very small gap between the L-clips and frame, Gary is sending me new clips.

I guess I'd like to see where the error showed up - please send me a piccy so I can evaluate it. I weld these up on a jig and then recheck after welding so they are all made pretty consistent. Maybe your subframe is already bent.

I don't really see any issues at this point. Most likely, I will send you a new L-clip made to closer tolerances that would pull the stiffy arm closer to the subframe. The good thing is if there were a crack failure of your subframe, the stiffy kit will keep everything all together.

I had a little gap/stand-off at one of the bolt holes after installing the L-clips. Took it back off and gave it a little twist and the gap was gone..

I'll pull the plastic off of the left side and send you a picture tomorrow.

New Bike, only has 400 miles and has had no weight in the GV47 other than a pair of gloves so if the subframe is bent it came that way.

New L clip might well be the cure and would be perfectly satisfactory. I can also pull it off and tweak it if needed as well but it appears mine may not be the only one to experience this (EDIT)

Still waiting for my "L clips" to do install, but I do notice one leg/side of the stiffy is about a pennies height up off the table sitting here(not level). Don't know if that will make any difference once installed or not.

Got the stiffy bracket & installed it a couple of months ago. Last week finished the adapter plate for my Honda Pan-european trunk from my ST1300 & got it installed. Solid as a ROCK. Stiffy bracket is one of the best investments for my new bike!

I have noticed that the subframe is a cast unit and the bosses that the rack (and stiffy plate) rest on are not machined faces, This may lead to variances in how the stiffy arms may set on the subframe, which may be the case here. There may also be variability in the thickness of the subframe rails as well. If there is a gap between the arms and the subframe, the clips should pull the arm down a bit, although this gap should not affect the performance of the kit. If requested, I will send a new L-clip that is made to a tighter tolerance - no problem.

The gap/stand-off I was talking about was at one of the top bolt holes, not at the bottom at the L-clips...

All is well ready to ride...

I got the stiffy kit and supersized GIVI rack from Gerauld yesterday and managed to install today. Aside from it being a little chilly in the garage, it was mostly easy. Gary makes a great product and the modified GIVI rack works well.

I may eventually change my choice of topcase. I really like the SHAD but may go with a Pelican case.

Again, thanks Gary!
