I was delayed about an hour in Ogdan due to that accident refered to earlier. Stopped in Baker City, OR in the early afternoon. Did my laundry and had a DQ banana split then spent the night at the Super 8. Monday I headed south on OR 7 to US 26 then OR 20 and US 101 up the coast to Tillamook and then across the coast range to Forest Grove. I had a great time in PC and am looking forward to next year in Denver.

Late next week I'm heading up to Redmond, WA for the WeSTOC rally then up into Canada on hwy 1 and down through the Black Hills back to Texas.

I had one close call. A pickup truck almost hung a left in front of me. Luckily he swerved back to the right just in time. Nothing I could have done about it if he hadn't seen me. :eek:

 
I decided to ride on home as the weather was very nice, even saw 57 degrees around Jacobs Lake. Left PC at 8:45 hometime & arrived home at 5:45 (abt 700 miles).

Had a GREAT time and looking forward to next year already !

 
Made it to Lapine with only a bad ign. switch and one road side encounter. Mad Mike stayed the night and rolled out of here around 10am to wander slowly south. :)
Re: Roadside encounter: With a Game Warden who called the local gendarmes to stop us. Sheesh, a lecture from a game warden about OUR unsafe driving when he was the one wandering all over the roade and across the line?!?!?!?!

I just got home. I really enjoyed riding Hwy 3-Hwy 299 an on to visit some friends in Red Bluff.

3734 miles round trip; 59 mph, avg. speed.

As with Highlander, where do I sign up for NAFO?

Made it home safe and sound today - spent a couple of days in Calgary with my sister and then burned home this afternoon. WFO was awesome - I'll post about my BBG later.

Hey all, we (Nelly and I) made it back in one piece. Vegas didn't kick our butt and I survived the drive.

 
I left Park City Sunday morning at about 8 and stopped for the night in Jackson, WY, where I had made arrangements with the Yamaha dealer to replace my oddly-worn Michelin Pilot Road rear tire on Monday morning. After 9,000 miles, it had very little tread left, and the center was concave. And yes, I've been diligent about running correct tire pressures--42 on the rear tire. The concave center made me uncomfortable, since I had another 700 miles to reach home.

It turns out that the Yamaha dealer in Jackson did not have a Pilot Road in stock as they had told me over the phone, but they had a Pilot Power 2C. He showed me the description in a catalog, which also had the MSRP. Later he told me the price of the tire, and it was $25 more than the MSRP. Eventually I got him down to the MSRP, but he was ready to take advantage of an out of towner who badly needed a tire.

Not having a choice, I had him install the Pilot Power, which is made from two kinds of rubber, with a softer compound on the edges. It's supposed to be good for the "street and the track", and claims a possible 51-degree lean angle.

After the tire replacement, I continued to Yellowstone, where I will work until Saturday, when I'll ride back to South Dakota. And, only one roadside encounter.... a lecture near Jackson.

And, thanks again guys, for putting on a great event.

See you at CFO in September!!!

I believe this was at the junction of US287 & WY220

I saw a rig exactly like that on the way TO WFO. It was about 50 miles northeast of Park City. I could not believe my eyes, but the cargo was actually a weight bearing part of the "truck". At least I GUESS the huge cylinder was cargo.

Picked up UHaul Truck Sunday morning in Salt Lake City around 9:30 and made it to Home Depot to buy tie downs, then loaded the bikes by mid afternoon. Laid around and took care of S.O.. She shouldn’t have walked around so much on Saturday, as now she can hardly walk at all. Left PC at around 8:30 AM on Monday after another fine breakfast at Einstein’s. Drove to rest stop on I-84 East of Ogden, S.O. it took a long time to get to the toilet and back, really, really sore ass. Made wrong turn and drove through Ogden. Made another pit stop then stopped in Burley, ID for gas. Went on to Mountain Home for a late lunch and then stops at Wal Mart and Save On Drugs to get a step stool and Crutches and more drugs. Took an alternate route for enjoyment by going Hwy 67 to Grand View and 78 back up to Nampa for the night. Left at a normal man's hour and headed up I 84 where we stopped at one rest stop for a leak, then on to La Grand for Breakfast. A stop along the Columbia for another pit stop and then on to Cascade locks for Lunch at that little “Old Fashioned” hamburger joint. Dropped off bikes at Action Motorsports to get an estimates($150 ea.), and got home around 5:30 pm on Tuesday. Returned the U Haul by 6:30.

Home safe and sound. We both had a great time, except for the crash. Colo. sounds great. And we just want to say "Great job Mike and team." :clapping: :yahoo: :clapping: :yahoo:

We saw 4 or 5 of these rigs running Eastbound from Portland on our way back and 2 empty rigs heading back to Portland, as well. Whatever they are, they seem to be coming from this area, either from fabricators here, or being off loaded at Portland docks.

Michelin now has the Pilot Road 2. Hard in center and soft on sides. Write up in Rider magazine.

Those trucks with the long loads are transporting tower sections for wind turbines. We have over 1000 of them north, south and west of Abilene, Texas.

 
Arrived home yesterday (Thursday).

7,213 miles round trip.

No more performance awards on the return leg.

Stayed with Grumpy in Western NC Tuesday night. Couldn't resist doing some serious Smoky Mountain twisties Wednesday. We put a couple hundred on in 60-75F temps and it was magnificent. Grumpy is doing very well after the heart stints.

Longest day home required 774 miles in order to have play time in Grumpy's back yard. About 100 miles west of NC border I sucumbed to "slabitis". HAD to get off the slabs and did no more than absolutely necessary to get home. Took every two-lane pigpath possible between Western NC and my coastal home.

I have a lot of info for Yami about the altitude sickness. Planning on writing it all up and making a formal warranty issue of it, just in case.

Definitely was a vacation adventure. No way to call it just a vacation trip.

My favorite part of the WFO event itself... Hmmmm... Riding FJRChik all day long!!!

Back home safe and sound with no incidents. Just rolled in the driveway late last night.

My Dad and I took off Sunday morning and worked our way south through Moab and made it to Cortez, CO by Sunday night. Even made a side trip into Canyonlands. Would of loved to stayed longer but it was seriously toasty out that day. Decided that we must make a point of coming back at a better time of year, there is some spectacular scenerie down there.

Monday we drove to Durango, then north along the million dollar highway up through silverton to Ouray. WOW! Freakin awesome. Bumped into another FJR pilot and his better half just south of Ouray (sorry, cant remember your name at the moment). Chatted for a bit. Actually, we kept seeing other FJRs zipping around Colorado from WFO while we were heading home.; Obviously we weren't the only ones that had added an extra few days onto the journey home to enjoy the mountains. Made it to Denver by Monday night and grabbed the truck.

Two days of slab towing the bikes got us home. Even had CanadianFJR pass us on the interstate. Made a couple interesting stops on this leg. First was "Iowa 80" the worlds largest truck stop just west of Davenport on I-80. Damn, that place is huge! We also stopped at a rest stop on I-80 just west of where I-94 joins in the Chicago area. The whole rest stop is built as a bridge over the Interstate. You can sit inside and have a snack while you watch the traffic whizzing under your feet. Very cool.

Made it back to my Dad's place by Wednesday night. Back at my place by Thursday night.

Had a great time and I am very looking forway to next years NAFO!

Back in California with no problems. Was very hot across Nevada, but new Mira Cool Vest helped a lot. Mostly slab on the return except for the trip over Tioga Pass. Restaurant at the 395-120 junction is still the tops. On return from SW-FOG chatted with Tommy Franks there during breakfast. He was riding a brand new custom painted Harley a gift from The Motor Company.

Total trip was 4323 miles and averaged 48.4 MPG over the whole trip. All great fun. Many, many thanks to the hardworking folks that made this happen.
