1) Arrive at the meet place with your gas tank FULL.

For goodness sakes...stop and fill your bike's gas tank!

2) I hate the sound of bikes sliding on pavement. And I hate how they look afterward.

3) I don't like the sounds people make when injured during a motorcycle crash. Nor do I like to see blood oozing from a friend. I really dislike seeing bones protruding through skin and riding suits and having to make THAT phone call to loved ones!

Also, we "might" run stagger formation on the major parts of the highways, BUT I expect everyone to adhere to the single-file system on twisty parts and keep 2 to 3 seconds spacing. This isn't a race and you shouldn't be looking for places to pass, so don't push the guy (or gal or couple) in front of you.

RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE! No rider ever got hurt taking a corner 5 mph slower.

4) This IS Memorial Weekend. There will be plenty of "tourist types" doing unknown and unplanned "tricks" on the roadway. There will also likely be a greater CHP presence. Let's THINK!

[SIZE=8pt]If there are showers, the roads will be damp and slick. I plan to ride "+5" until we are in more "remote" environs. Er...uhm...radar detectors ON, GMRS radios ON.[/SIZE]

5) Hwy 89 over Monitor Pass should be its usual "yee-freakin'-haw" and, "Lookit ther Ethel-Mae, sweepers!" ride. However, Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass always presents its own reasons for forethought. Stay Wide!

[SIZE=8pt]Ride your sight lines (If you can't see...SLOW DOWN!) because there will be many different people on that stretch and not all "problem causers" drive cages...some motorcyclist present their own brand of "pucker moments" thinking its their private raceway.[/SIZE]

6) Ride smooth and ride safe. The "fun" is in the finishing!

7) Oh yeah....Watch for rocks!

My original plan is to ride from Jackson to Carson Pass for the first rest-stop (75 miles?/ 1 1/2 hours). Then from Carson Pass to Topaz Lake (45-50 miles/1 hr.). If that is going to be too long, speak up and we'll find another stop along the route. (Cook's Station? Ham Station?)

My plan was to stop at the Monitor Pass overlook on the way back, after lunch. Then tackle Ebbett's and on down to Murphys (Topaz to Murphys=90 miles). I KNOW there is an ice cream place there....and The Den Mother can "smell" them.

If I think of anything to add, I'll do so Sunday morning.

Just checked hwy conditions. Chains required on 88 adn 4. I was hoping to not have to bring them to save weight.

Yeah, like I said, this may turn out to be a "Ride to Breakfast" in Jackson and enjoy some lower elevation roads. I suppose we'll know more tomorrow (He said, while heading for the garage to re-install the foot guards, hand guards and Winter windshield.)

Just went for a walk in the drizzle here in Sacramento. Wearing my finest high traction sneakers, I was almost able to skate on some parts of the road surface - asphalt - and especially any painted areas.

It's been a long time since we've had decent precipitation here, and this sprinkling isn't enough to really rinse off the slime. It would be better if it were to just pour for a couple of hours, and wash away "the pain."

I guess I'll just rent Million Dollar Mermaid or go buy some stout and read my shop manual. Tomorrow WILL dawn mild and sunny. It WILL.

Back when I rode bicycles, riding 200 miles in 12 hours, we worried about the weather.

Some people would say it's too cold, too wet, etc...

Our reply was "I'll let you know when we get back from the ride".
