I'm not at all surprised they let the GenII roll another year because of the points touched on above... economy, no competitors upping the ante, etc.

What I'm saddened to see is Yamaha recycling colors. I know they kinda did it with the AE counterparts but in all but the rarest cases when you saw one you could immediately ID the year, it was one of the little 'special' little touches I love about the FJR... if you see a silver fairing, up until today it was definately an 03. There are so many more colors left to run, I'd probably trade my 03 in on an one of those sand/gold genII's Australia got in 07 or that deep (non cough syrup) red that the FZ1 came in last year or the year before. The list could go on and on for color options.

Oh well.

At least now I don't have to lament how my gen I is even further behind.

I was really to buy a Gen III but it looks like that might be on hold now....

Uh, no. No more than you're probably jealous of the clutch lever on the A's. It just looks like the AE was another motorcycle fad. I wonder what then next one will be?
My take on the dropping of the AE is that Yamaha was hoping for a "Gee whiz!" reaction from the moto-mags and the public but instead got a "cheeze whiz" reaction and that they just don't sell enough to justify the costs associated with keeping the AE in production.

I'm guessing we might see a new Honda S/T in the next year or two.

Great implementation, poor marketing. IMO

I think I like the black better..

Silver rocks, and the AE rocks! My '07 is both of them. Funny I really didn't want an AE. at first. Very worried about the whole concept of it. And I loved the black cherry color. Then when I laid eyes on the silver AE my mind was made up for me. Loved it ever since. Love the yccs clutch system. It's a great commuter bike. If you ever saw me stuck in traffic, dragging both feet, with just one hand in the bars doing 3 miles an hour with an iced coffee in my free hand as I am "walking" along. You'd know why I love the AE so much. Hope they bring it back...

I wish these companies would do a better job of keeping their customers in the loop? You know, like Apple does with their customers.

Let's see my 05 has just turned 30k and skooterg has put 160k on his. I probably won't have to look at the new ones for 12 years.

It leaves me more money for one of these.

They also dropped the Royal Star Tour Delux and the Royal Star Ventura didn't get the Fuel injection treatment the 09 V-Max got.

If in fact these are the same engine when why not? They stuck with the 4 carbs.

I had heard that all motorcycles were to be fuel injected. I guess not.

The AE is not dead, they are selling it under a different name in the UK.

FJR1300AS - A revolution in sports touring

The FJR1300AS represents a revolution in sports touring. It has all the strengths of the award-winning FJR1300A with the additional benefit of YCC-S (Yamaha Chip Controlled – Shift), a clutchless gear-shifting system that takes the fatigue out of long days on the road. You can change gear by foot, as normal, or use the thumb shifter, but with no need to operate the clutch. The idea is simple – take away some of the hassles of riding and increase the pleasure.

WTF? Why are we limited to one colour? (Well I'm on a English website so why not spell it there way?)

Perhaps they just decided that IN CANADA the AE didn't sell well enough to justify bringing it in
I know where their are two BRAND NEW 05 AE's one on the showroom floor, the other in a crate out back, and their STILL asking almost $15G's for them! For a 5 year old bike! Ya, good luck with that.

You're correct as far as the 2009 line up is concerned. Yamaha Europe hasn't yet introduced its 2010 line up. Stay tuned...
