Something fairly unique and definitely worth mentioning about the HendersonvilleNC area...

The location provides many good choices at a variety of elevations ranging from 1,500'-6,000' ASL. If the weather is bad up high, you can have fun down low by venturing into northern SC around Table Rock. When weather is blowing in from the northwest, you can ride the eastern/Brevard/Pisgah side doing Lake Logan etc. When weather is blowing up from the southwest you can typically run an extra 1.5 hours west to get across the mountains and do the TN or NorthGA side. It's an excellent area for weather-driven options.

FOOD

* Krispy Kreme and Bojangles are just across the I-26 bridge for breakfast.

* One of the most magnificent Chinese buffets you will ever witness is 20 miles away in Brevard (Twin Dragons Grand Buffet).

* Umi Japanese Restaurant is 2.7 miles away in downtown H'ville. Incredible sushi, incredible chicken teriyaki, very nice place and not too expensive.

* Buck's Coffee Cafe 62 miles in Cashiers NC is a good spot to warm up along your routes.

RIDING

* The Snake/Shady Valley TN are 110 miles north.

* Cherohala Skyway/The Dragon/RobbinsvilleNC are 110 miles west.

* HighlandsNC/NC-28/Warwoman Rd are 62 miles southwest.

* Table Rock SC State Park is 42 miles south.

* The southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway is 35 miles west near Cruso NC/US-276 and runs 50 miles to Cherokee NC.

* To the northeast the BRP extends another 180 miles through Pisgah Forest, Boone NC, and across the border near Galax VA.

* Loads of rural 2-lane twisties jumping on/off the BRP and running through Grumpy's old backyard. (I have routes.)

ATTRACTIONS

* Carl Sandburg Home is 6 miles away in Flat Rock, NC.

* Biltmore House is 24 miles away in Asheville, NC.

* Museum of the Cherokee Indian is 77 miles away in Cherokee, NC.

* Clingmans Dome is 102 miles at the NC/TN border.

* Roan Mtn. State Park (TN) is 90 miles to the north.

CAMPING

* If you are determined to camp... Not sure what else Wayne has in mind but Blue Ridge Motorcycle Camp is 41 miles into Pisgah Forest up US-276.

Generally speaking, I'd say all riders are welcome.

that being said, if some squid shows up doing wheelies in the parking lot, well, who knows what will happen to him (or her)...

Hope to see you in September!

Wayne

I might be bringing a ST 1300 rider along with me...hope that's ok.

Still, Ohlins USA HQ is only 10 minutes from the Quality Inn. Hmmmm. Might be time for an upgrade between rides.
Getting warmer... There will be an event at the Ohlins HQ in conjunction with EOM. Details to follow on that.

AND thank you Mr. Ashe - I hope to fully exploit you're unique knowledge of the EOM AO (area of operations)...

Actually, if you are determined to camp, that's a pretty nice option! :clapping:

There be some mighty fine roads between there and Hendersonville. :yahoo:

The BRMC was a nice place...but 41 miles of US 276 in the dark, after a few beers in the EOM HQ parking lot might be suicidal. I'll be staying where I can crawl to my bed, if need be

I was recently maligned as 'just a biker' - poorly-dragged-up and homophobic - with a "bikers' mentality" ;)

So I figure I'll work on my manners and welcome you - Catch and Dark Knight - to the FJR Forum.

Perhaps we'll meet at EOM

Cheers :drinks:

Ps - Krispy Kreme donuts?! I haven't had a KK in YEARS! Do they still do that thing where, if you're in the store and a red light starts flashing, everyone gets a freeeeee, hot-of-the-press donut? :clapping:

I hope there is more food options than what Jeff put up......

Jeff how about you list the Bars and the Strip clubs too.......

Thanks much MEM.....Look forward to it...

Good day ladies & gents,

Here's the newbie question of the day about EOM....are (the majority of) folks rolling in on the day of the 20th, or the night before for a day of riding on the 20th? Are folks pulling out the 23rd, or the day after?

Yup...that's right.

Varies, but many are in Thursday, ride two days, and out Sunday.

Good question.

The core dates are the 20th through the 23rd. Typically, riders will travel in on the 20th(Thursday), arriving that evening, and travel out on the 23rd (Sunday) - departing first thing.

There are some, due to vacation time restrictions, that can't get there until Friday night, or Saturday even. There are other members who are blessed with an unreasonable excessive amount of vacation days (cough - bikergeek - cough) that arrive early, stay later, and travel to other exotic locals. Others will spend the entire week prior on the road to EOM - avoiding the expressway at all costs, subjecting his pillion to day after day & mile after mile of the most twisted and altitude unstable roads imaginable - not sure who this applies to.

Take what time your schedule permits.

Here's something that might help - consider the following to be events funded by your rally fees (typically) a light dinner Friday evening, a banquet buffet meal Saturday night, a tee-shirt & swag that can be scrounged, along the chance to win any of the door prizes donated (cough - Ohlins - cough). The cliff notes version = you're paying for two meals, a shirt, and the chance of winning free stuff.

Thanks much guys...That helps much... I will ride in then on the 20th and scoot back towards Virginia Beach on Sunday...Thanks a million...

Better bring some good cigars ;)
As you well know, Joe. MEM can't bring the really good cigars without risking arrest at the border. Nope, you just have to go up d'ere, nort' a da border, for those. BTW, a Monte #2 is my personal fav ;)

I think this applies to all the smartest folks, eh? ;)

I didn't realize how good I had it before I retired last year - 30 days a year from day one. Now, starting over, I've got 10. Or rather, will have ten to earn once I'm out of the probationary period...

And your point is.... ???
