    Strokes, recovery and my fjr.

Thats a great question. I really don't because I am much more in tune with my body now. As long as I respond well to Plavix and the other meds I will continue to ride with in my limits. I ride slower now and really miss rideing partner larry. I don't feel safe riding 20 to 30 mile an hour over...

    Strokes, recovery and my fjr.

I am writing this in the hope I can help other fjr riders through what I have survived. My name is Wink and I saved my fjr from the junk man. My fjr saved me. If you look at "2005 Burned fjr" post you know how I got my fjr. About six months later after I recovered from a lay down to avoid a mini...

    Lowered

Have you modified the kick stand when I lowered bikes in the past the side stand proved a problem on certain parking situations. Falling over on the right side can happen when the bike sits up too much.

    Passenger Techniques

there are simple rules: Never ride a person who weighs more than you ,don't take a passenger until you have riden at least 1000 miles solo, always tell your passenger where to hold either you(around the waiste) or to grab the hand holds on the bike and over which shoulder you want them to look...

Exhaust System or Top End Work?

If you are looking for the most bang for your buck I would go with a drop in cam set. I would of course do a leak down test first and a compression test. If the test look good then the cams will give you an easy installation and any where from a 5 to 10 percent gain especially in the low and mid...

    Motorcycle Restoration

I have restored everything from cl90s to honda gold wings. I always start with the basics, compression test, charging system test, and last but not least brakes. All of these can cost alot and if you don't care and are just saving the love of your life then burn the wallet and full speed aheaed...

    Track day oil life

A good friend of mine who was an engineer for Hewlett Packard crunched the numbers for me and came up with the number of 30 to 1. In other words for every mile you put on the bike at the track it equals to 30 wear miles. This is for the engine only, not the chasis. I hope this answers your...

    Electrical Consumption

I know the Yamaha people have given us a large charging system, but the battery is still the size of a fruit cake and about as powerful a day latter. It still takes a few miles of riding to replenish it after the starter is used. If you look in the shop manual you can add up all the load items...

    braking distance

If you are traveling in a straight line you will be able to look well ahead. If you are in a curve the lightest bike and rider combination has the advantage. I have stopped my 2005 from 60 mph in 100 feet. But I am an expert roadracer with the iron to prove it. It is all relative. If the bikes...

    Tire size - non FJR

There is very little to be gained by going to a larger tire. In some cases a larger tire will only flex more and create handling problems. If you change aspect ratio be careful , you will affect the roll characteristics and this will make it harder to transition from one direction to another...

    2005 Fjr Idle/constant Throttle Problem.

How many miles are on the bike? I had a strange problem on a customers bike that turned out to be worn exhaust guides the leakdown test did not show the problrem and only after removing the top end did I find the problem. The bike in question was a honda and it had 30,000 miles on it. Maybe this...

    Clunking Trans

This will probably get a lot of mad mail but if you want your fjr to shift better try AMS/OIL 10/40 full synthetic oil. I have used this oil in over 25 bikes of my own and hundreds of customer bikes. The universal comment from all was the smoother shifting of their bike. In the case of my 1975...

    Riding 2 up on FJR????

I weigh 220 and my wife is only 125 but when you add a 20 lb purse 20# of extra clothes 5 bottles of water etc. We are close to you. No problem! Just use appropriate tire pressures when packing double. Keep the rubber side down and the smiles up.
