looking for suggestions to block heat on 2005

Howdy. Doing 3 Flags this year and it looks to be a hot route this year. I am wondering if anyone has any good (and simple) suggestions on how to block the heat on a 2005 FJR (short of buying a 2006 or newer, or removing the tank and installing heat shielding/barriers under the tank). I am...

    Windscreen no longer retracts

I know some people do this on purpose (it never bothered me), but all of a sudden my windscreen stopped auto-retracting when I turn off the key. Sometimes it does, randomly, but most times it does not. Anyone else had this happen? I did some searching and found how people take the panels off...

    3 Flags 2009

I'd like to do 3 Flags this year, but am in need of a ticket. If anyone has an extra, can you scoot me an email? Thanks

Thanks!! Yes, it was a great trip.

    6630 mile trip

No actually, I got back last Wed. and immediately had a cold shower. Coming home/leaving through California's central valley is always the worst/hottest part of the trip! The rest of the ride the weather was pretty good - never really got cold, except the pass from Lilooet to...

    soft, or hard?

I'm riding solo, but with a full load - should I set the FJR suspension to hard, or keep it at soft? Saddlebags & full trunk full w/additional duffel on the back seat. Got about 40lbs pressure in front/rear tires, brand new rubber. Thanks

Well, I got my VStream last week....

Heavy duty thickness, and damn big, but I like the shape of it and it makes things a lot quieter (I'm also using Skyway's spacers). Just for the record - I'm about 5' 9", FJR is an '05, stock seat. In the lowest position the wind hits me right in the face, but it's reasonably quiet (not...

    Source for windshield screws?

Freakin bizarre - I just got back to the office after being at Specialty Tool looking for these (and immediately saw your post) - they didn't have them..... I was wondering the same thing - what's up with that? I have been very careful in swapping shields, but one of them is pretty dinged -...

    The Dreaded TPS

I have an '05. TPS letter came to me after a disasterous quick trip from Santa Barbara to Colorado and back. Stalled 3 times causing me to tip, go to the doctor for a f'd up knee, then a month later I get the letter saying "could stall/do not ride your bike/death destruction injury". I was...

anyone have a VStream for their FJR? I just got mine...

I'm only in my mid 30's, so I'm not sure I ever qualified as a hippie. A high tech yuppie hippie maybe - yippie? :-) Since I missed the '60's, I set out to have my own version of it. It was a great success and a wonderful time. Smoke? That stuff just makes me paranoid - I don't touch...

anyone have a VStream for their FJR? I just got mine...

Thanks for the pix. It looks the same as mine - but check out the national cycle web site - I swear it's a different shield - it looks like it's got a definate bend upward (and in) halfway up. https://www.nationalcycle.com/newrelease/im...VStream_FJR.jpg Weird.

anyone have a VStream for their FJR? I just got mine...

I just ran from the coffee shop, hit the freeway and blasted down the freeway @ 85 (the whole 2 miles to work). It is much better than my stock or tall Yami shields from what I can tell. It will be a good addition to my tour in a couple of weeks. I am just dumbfounded though by the photos at...

anyone have a VStream for their FJR? I just got mine...

....Jesus this thing's big! I was wondering if anyone else had photos of their bike with it on - from the front and sizeways (Gen 1). It doesn't appear to be indented or have as much of a whoop in the plastic on the sides as it does in the photo. It's more flat, just cut in a bit on the...

Did you buy your FJR with cash?

I needed to finance at the time (2005) , but Yamaha only had 12% interest rate (even for my "excellent" credit rating) on the FJR's (I guess since they are/were a hot item). So I put 4k down, financed the rest through them, then moved the entire thing to a 0% card, and paid it off over a year...

how many gadgets can i run without blowing chunks?

Thanks again. I do have heated grips, but obviously they aren't running when the bike is stopped, so I suspected it would be OK. I was in Hyder in '05 - great weather - no rain! I always wondered why the folks who do Hyderseek - go up in June !!?!?! I'd go along if it was a little later in...

how many gadgets can i run without blowing chunks?

I thought they would be pretty low-draw stuff, but wanted to make sure. I'll quickly detach everything, including the Garmin and not have it running when the bike is stopped or at the end of the day. Thanks for your input.

how many gadgets can i run without blowing chunks?

Before I ride to Hyder, I want to make sure I'm not running too much gear on my '05 FJR. I've gone all Alton Brown style on the bike since I got it. There must be a reason people run voltmeters sometimes. How many toys can I run? Currently drawing off battery: Garmin Zumo 550, Passport...

    sliders for '05?

Does anybody make any sliders/knob things for the sizes of a gen 1 FJR? ie. '05? I see that on the '06 there is a space to go through the opening of the fairing to bold them onto, but for the '05 it looks like you'd have to drill holes in the fairing. Or does anyone have a solution where you...
