    PNW Ride Sunday 8/15/10

.....hmmm, saw this a day late. I needed a "cool down" ride (or should I say "cool up"!) Sunrise (Mt. Rainer Natl. Pk.) Location: 46.914393°, -121.640625° At 6,400 feet, this is the highest paved road in Washington state and arguably one of the most beautiful. The alpine meadows of the area...

Hey Dennis!!! Now maybe it's time for this. (written 3 days after the "event") Motor On! Now and then, we’re forced to stop along the road and pause. ...and let the rest continue on, and be about their cause. But here I’ll wait, ‘till all is clear to venture on again., down joyful...

    Seriously Injured fellow FJR'er

...just received an e.mail from Dan (Scout) and he heard from Leslie (Dennis' wife). "Dennis is doing good and continues to improve. It will be a long improvement process. He is coming home on Wednesday and will continue rehab on an outpatient basis. He is not going back to the nursing home...

    Seriously Injured fellow FJR'er

Roamer here, (back from some roaming on east coast) Stopped in to see Dennis this morning and he was out in the hall in his wheelchair, teasingly assaulting all the staff and nurses with his witty barbs as they passed by. He's attentive to all who pass by and chats with anyone who will stop...

Hands-on look near PDX at aftermarket seats?

...kind of pondering seats as well. A Sargent (better than stock but not custom built) can be had for $650 or so and you keep your stock seat. What are people paying for the custom / high end saddles???? I'm not too far from Riches so that would be convenient.

    Volcano Ride 2009

Hey fjroamer, I think my wife and I road with you, Steven, and some others to Mount baker earlier this summer with the Adventureriders from Monroe. We were on the black fjr. Yes? H. Yes , I was on that ride on an '03 silver FJR without the bags on that day. Good to hear from you! :)

    Volcano Ride 2009

Are Seattle area members meeting at the Black Diamond Bakery at 8:00 am? H. Just a heads-up; Three times I've eaten at B.D. Bakery on way to Mt. St Helens. Their bkfsts are second to none and one almost cannot clear their plate. If you stay on the go, allow three hours from there to Windy...

Twisty Trip! North Central Washington & BC Kootenays

...nice write up in the link. I can totally relate to your reflection "kind of lost interest in the local day rides....., looking fwd. to future extended endeavors" Kinda how I got the name "Roamer". Also has me often thinking of a more Adventure/ Tour oriented bike. Kind of fun to keep...

Harborview update... For those regularly following this thread, todays news is a bright spot. I've just returned from a couple hours visit and it was my most encouraging one yet! I had a great time with Leslie as Dennis drifted in and out of sleep but he seemed to be enjoying himself so much...

    Seriously Injured fellow FJR'er

I will see Leslie and Dennis this afternoon. I have the utmost respect for her tough decisions, consideratness to Dan and myself for allowing us to visit and share with this forum, and her love for Dennis. This is the kind of situation you would not wish on anyone, but Dennis could not have a...

    September Weekday Overnighter???

Nice route Steven..., I've done all that more than a couple of times and they're great roads. Now you'll have to go back up to the Kootenays and do B.C. 6 from Vernon to Nakusp. That is perhaps my favorite road up in that area. A great m/c friendly cafe, hangout at Fauquier just east of the...

    Seriously Injured fellow FJR'er

Just came home from Harborview. Saw Leslie (Dennis' wife) while I was in there. He is off the critical care floor and is in less need of monitoring. He occassionally responds with one word replies but this is an area that will take time to come back. He moved all of his limbs, even the left arm...

    Helmets

No offense meant here but I've worn glasses all my life, been riding over 30 years and always worn full face helmets (on and off road). I have never bent or broke temple pieces (after a couple of weeks?????), and they do make strong-flexible frames. I guess our frame sizes and helmet choices...

    Helmets

I've decided to raise this for forum discussion, insights and perhaps enlightenment in light of a recent forum mbrs. accident (Dennis, Pacific N.W thread) Dennis had the new version of the HJC flip front helmet. It was on his head, and buckled securely as we had ridden with him all day. After...

    Seriously Injured fellow FJR'er

...from the 'roaming' thoughts of Roamer... I've read through this thread from the beginning and am encouraged by all the support from all over the country. When you think of it, it's posted in an obscure 'Regional Ride Planning/ Pacific Northwest' thread and not on a main thread yet folks from...

    Seriously Injured fellow FJR'er

Driving home from Harborview just a short time ago, I pondered for a bit. Today I saw Dennis open his eyes, lift his head, acknowledge his wife and daughters presence, move limbs and quietly spoke a few simple responses. Eight days ago, no responses, eyes shut, no words. Four days ago, a gloomy...

Unusual wear pattern on front tire?

I concur with others here. My last set of tires were 'stone 021's and at 5,000 mi., fronts were done, rear still fine. Evidently, Dunlop Roadsmarts and Avon Storms will wear out the fronts well before the rears as well (for most people). I'm now running Michelin Pilot Road 2's and at 5,000...
