    GL1800 Goldwing Question

Thanks Lewis. Your description matches what I was able to recreate on a used GL1800 at my local dealer. Sure looked odd seeing the ABS light stay lit while the engine was running, but apparently that's the way they designed it. Thanks again. Steve

    GL1800 Goldwing Question

Good idea NYPete. Got an answer locally from my (surprisingly friendly) Honda dealer. V/R, Steve

    GL1800 Goldwing Question

Update for anybody who's interested. Called my local Honda Service Department and as I suspected the ABS light is supposed to stay off when the bike is running unless/untill the ABS is activated. Service rep had not seen this issue on a GL1800 and could obviously not pinpoint the cause without...

    GL1800 Goldwing Question

Update for anybody who's interested. Called my local Honda Service Department and as I suspected the ABS light is supposed to stay off when the bike is running unless/until the ABS is activiated. Service rep had not heard of this speciifc problem on a GL1800 before and obviously couldn't tell...

    GL1800 Goldwing Question

Got a quick question for anybody with an GL1800 ABS Goldwing. On a 2005 ABS Goldwing I test rode yesterday, the abs dash light would illuminate whenever the bike was stopped (engine idling in gear or in neutral). but would go out whenever the bike was moving above walking speed. The owner...

    Miles per Gallons

Getting 42-46 mpg from my 2005 on the highway. That's with a passenger, a loaded top-box and a V-Stream windshield at an average speed of 70 mph. Can't complain about the mileage.

    Saddlebag disassembly

One of my saddlebag lids was moderately scratched from a parking lot fall. It's fairly straightforward to drill-out the rivets on the bag hinges and remove the lid. I sent the saddlbag lid to Garauld (forum member) and had it repainted for $75.00. He even provided the proper sized rivets to...

    Best Windshield?

The V-Stream works well for me. I'm 5'11" and greatly prefer it over the stock shield. Smooth air-flow and virtually zero helmet buffeting. I also don't need to raise the V-Stream all the way up. Recommended.

Going to buy an FJR - Looking for advice

I'm planning to buy a used FJR in the next few weeks and have a question for current owners. Are there any reasons not to to consider bikes with higher mileage? By 'higher mileage' I mean over 30K miles. Is a clean example with 30K miles much less desirable than a similar bike with 10K miles...

    Suspension Question

Appreciate all the feed-back. The FJR we rode had about 9K miles on it. We're planning to move up from our current bike (Triumph Bonneville) to a machine better suited to long distance riding. The FJR was on the short list of bikes we wanted to try before making a decision on what to buy...

    Suspension Question

Potential future FJR owner here. Recently took a longish (120 mile) test ride on a 2007 FJR. My wife and I liked the bike overall. That said there is one issue holding us back. My wife and I both found the ride quality to be quite harsh. Small road bumps and potholes ridges were not...

FJR1300 - Good choice for Alaska Trip?

Update - Finally got to test ride an FJR! Took a bit of arranging and driving, but I (we) finally got to ride a 2007 FJR for an afternoon. Only had time put for about 120 miles, but it definitely gave me (and my SO) a decent exposure to the bike. Here's a brief summary of our experience...

FJR1300 - Good choice for Alaska Trip?

Still attempting to arrange an FJR test ride. There's a place in central CA where you can rent a 2007 model, but it's down for repairs right now. Apparently, it was dropped while stationary and needs some new bodywork pieces (which are on back-order). In answer to Judds question, at this...

FJR1300 - Good choice for Alaska Trip?

Update #2 - We rented a 2007 BMW R1200RT this past weekend and put on about 350 miles. Very interesting experience. I can see why people buy them. Fit me like a glove (I'm 5'11") and was very comfortable overall. Not so much for my SO. She didn't like the pitched forward pillion seat. Took...

FJR1300 - Good choice for Alaska Trip?

Update - Wife and I rented a new Goldwing last weekend and headed up the CA coast. We put on 400 miles over the (hot) Labor Day weekend. As expected the Goldwing was smooth, comfortable and powerful. As I'd been told, once undeway the bike handles surprising well. That said, at parking lot...
