Got a quick question for anybody with an GL1800 ABS Goldwing.

On a 2005 ABS Goldwing I test rode yesterday, the abs dash light would illuminate whenever the bike was stopped (engine idling in gear or in neutral).
but would go out whenever the bike was moving above walking speed.

The owner said it's always been that way.
Didn't seem right to me.
On my ABS equipped FJR, as soon as I start the engine the ABS light goes out (and only goes on if abs is activated).

So, are there any Goldwing owners out there who can tell me what's correct?

Thanks,
Steve

Update for anybody who's interested.

Called my local Honda Service Department and as I suspected the ABS light
is supposed to stay off when the bike is running unless/until the ABS is activiated.

Service rep had not heard of this speciifc problem on a GL1800 before and obviously couldn't tell me
what the cause is without a bit of troubleshooting.

Could range from a simple loose connection to a bad wheel sensor all the way to a faulty
ABS computer. Potential repair costs could be as high as $1200.

When you start the 1800 the ABS light will stay on until the bike has rolled a short distance at a minimum speed. I don't know the exact numbers, but, in my experience I'd guess 10-15' at ~5 mph. It shouldn't come back on under normal conditions until the bike is re-started.

Thanks Lewis.

Your description matches what I was able to recreate on a used GL1800

at my local dealer.

Sure looked odd seeing the ABS light stay lit while the engine was running,

but apparently that's the way they designed it.

Thanks again.

Steve

I sold my Wing last year it had ABS the light comes on when you start it when you move it goes out and don't come back on unless it is shut off and re-Started.
