I just picked up some Motul Expert coolant today. A motorcycle specific coolant, whatever that means. It's the premixed variety and is kind of spendy, but I get it at cost plus 10% so it's comparable to mixing my own, or close enough anyway.I've used this in my dirt bike for years, where cooling systems are hammered, and it's always performed excellently. Some of the riding buddies swear the stuff makes their dirt bikes run about 10*F cooler. I never actually checked temps, so I can't say.

Interestingly enough, I can't tell if it's more green or orange as it's already mixed/diluted, and I'm 40% color blind........ go figure. It says it's compatible with all coolants and cooling systems, gaskets, hoses, etc. So, should I give it a try?
Are you feeling lucky....????

Drained my system, filled w/Texaco "Green" 50/50, and went riding. 800 miles later so far so good!

Well, it's not like any of the coolants out there are gonna blow things up. Just that some offer better benefits than others.

I know Rad, I was trying to be sarcastic but it doesn't work all that well when folks reading your post can't imagine your inflection.

There's a lot of stuff out there on the subject, but from my reading, a change from green to orange means several thousand kilomteres of NO cooling system corrosion protection while the orange stuff leaches out the silicates in your system - so changing to orange and then back to green is about as protective as running plain water (though you still get most of the temperature boilover protection from the mixed coolants).
The Brown Jello theory actually is tied to contamination of the orange coolant because air gets in the system at temperature - reaction between the hot coolant and the oxygen in the free air causes the 'brown sludge'.

How much did you pay for the Orange? Can you exchange it? Is it's all THAT expensive? For MY money, if gGeen was there, then Green goes back.

The "green stuff" can be long life 5 year coolant as well, so don't automatically think green coolant is the ordinary sillictaed stuff. Peak 5 year long life coolant is a good example. It is green long life.

Another question. Is there a company out there that makes a "ready to pour" 50/50 mix? Seems much easier than trying to figure out how much distilled water and coolant to use.
THe Honda coolant comes pre mixed.

Yamaha has their own version of pre-mixed coolant- Yamacool. After looking around at a few shops and auto parts stores I went with the Yamacool as non were listed as silicate free.

Guy at my local Yamaha shop was trying to persuade me to go with some orange version of "engine ice" coolant saying that those FJR's run hot and this will help-sure, okay-I'll take that Yamacool!
