Hi all,

I am planning a ride up to Niagra Falls with my soon to be wife, we are getting hitched up there. We are planning on being gone about a week. I know it is not that far from the Pittsburgh area but I figure we can meander around a bit and take a leasurely ride without being on a strict schedule. This will be Donna's first ride of this type so I don't want to over do it.

Any suggestions on routes, points of intrest or places to hang out and spend the night would be appreciated. I was thinking about the Pa grand canyon, Seaway Trail, maybe Finger Lakes?

We will be leaving July 8th, need to be at the falls on the 12th and home by Saturday night.

Any suggestions will be appreciated and hopefully my farkeling will be done by the time we leave.

Thanks, Scott

There are a lot of wineries around the finger lakes. They normally provide a tour and a few small samples.

Scott,

The area around Ithaca, NY is a really nice area. Take a ride around the Cornell University campus and check out the gorge, and since your trip is going to look at Niagra falls visit Taughannock Falls just outside town, maybe ride up Cayuga Lake towards Seneca Falls (about 50 miles if I remember correctly). Ithaca is on the south end of Cayuga which is the middle finger, you know which one, of the finger lakes and Seneca Falls is on the North End. Visit some wineries. Check out one of last months MC magazines (Rider mag maybe) and they did a ride east to west on Route 20 to Buffalo....that may also provide some info.

If anyone near the falls asks you to sit inside a barrel while they test it for leaks... decline the offer...

On the Canadian side of the falls, it's a nice ride if you follow the coast road up & around to the North/West. Little traffic, lots of wineries, small towns that haven't changed in 40 years, and lots of spots to pull over. Big difference from all the Falls traffic & commercialism.

+1 for the Ithaca area, scenic, some parks to bike & hike, lots of small stores with real proprietors, and more wineries.

I've heard tell that PA 6, that runs across most of the top of the state, is a wonderful scenic ride. Again, lots of small towns that haven't changed in 40 years, enough trees to last you a lifetime, and almost no traffic. The kind of road where the diner parking lots tell you what the local populace thinks of the food. I think PA has designated it a 'scenic highway', I wonder if it is maintained by PennDOT (fanmous for lousy maint) ?

Thanks for the suggestions, Guys. I don't want to plan completely, but don't want to go in blind either. Ithaca sounds nice. Route 6 is also a good road. The last time I was on it we ran into a Momma bear and cub crossing the road in frount of us. Pretty cool!

My wife a I did the Fall Colors trip to New England last year and made the effort to go to Niagra Falls. The Canadian side is by far the best side to visit. The exchange rate and hospitality is worth the visit. One warning TAKE YOUR PASSPORT.

Enjoy Canada.

On the Canadian side if you cross over, you want to follow the Niagara On The Lake signs, that's where the best riding is....wineries,.... butterfly atrium,....some nice bed & breakfasts if you don't want to hotel.... :)

Just bring helmets.....them new york nazi bastards require you to wear one....and you won't get through the border unless you are wearing one. I'm sure mikeh can tell you all about that.

New York Nazi's  .....

Yeah, them crazy dudes out there that want you to wear a lid when you are riding. Went to new york state on my last road trip on my buddies bike(72 cb750 fully restored). Dropped the scoots off in syracuse and rented a car to drive into nyc.

Assuming you'll be on the CA side, you can hit the casino at night. But, if you find the $400 that I lost on the roulette table, could you please let me know?
