Looking for a little help.

My wife was trying to be thoughtful and purchased a new GPS for me last Fathers Day.

I had previously dropped hints that I was looking at the Garmin 550.

She purchased a Sony Nav-U83T.

Nice unit, large touch screen and strong graphics, blue tooth and more, BUT!

After learning a little about and trying to use the unit, I found out that you can not download maps or files.

For me, that is the primary reason for the GPS.

Be able to download the routes that you guys post and then pull up that route and follow the GPS.

Sony says you can download up dates to their software and you can download your address book from your cellular phone but not 3rd party maps or routes.

So my questions to you GPS savvy individuals are.

Do I pass this unit on to the wife and purchase a 550?

or

Is there a way that Sony can up grade the software to allow that function?

or

Are there any other options?

I'd definitely pass it on unless your biggest use for your unit is autorouting. My biggest use for my GPS is downloaded routes.

I think passing it onto the wife will be the best way to go.

I agree Heidi, I want to download the routes and be ready to follow the GPS.

Don't think the Autorouting is enough to keep me happy.

Thanks for your feedback.
