Steve McQueen 1973 Honda CR250 Elsinore For sale Full documented $100,000

This Honda Elsinore was purchased from a private collector, motorcycle enthusiast and personal friend of Steve McQueen.

He prefers to remain anonymous and out of respect, his name will not be stated. Based on what he knew, it was #2 of 3

that Steve used for promotional advertising. This is the only Elsinore owned by Steve, known to exist at this time.

Knowing not one whit of the facts around this specific bike, I can say that every year, we get a number of cars and bikes all claiming to be personally owned or used by Steve. Few of them are entirely accurate, but enough people have claimed "McQueen ownership" for Chad and I to seriously consider putting together a certification program to identify and document those that are legitimate. The "McQueen ownership" adds about 4-10x to the auction value of any of these machines, so certification would be quite a valuable thing to both sellers and buyers. Nothing pisses his son off more than fake claims and seeing buyers get burned.

The Husqvarnas are a good example of this problem. At Le Mans, a crate of these showed up for use by Steve and his pals, and when he filmed the Honda commercials, another crate showed up. If you add up the number of claimants of SMQ Husky ownership, the numbers wouldn't make sense. The bikes are more troublesome than the cars, which are far easier to substantiate.

In any case, it's cool that people still place value on whether a bike was McQueen owned or not. He was the real deal, and maybe its not surprising to see why, even close to 40 years after his death, that people react the way they do.
