Post some pics of the area in which you live

I always like to check out the different pictures that people post of the areas that they live and ride in. Here are a couple I took on Friday in Sag Harbor, NY and the immediate area. The village was a major whaling port back in the day and the waterfront is still a major part of everyones life here.

The village is located directly on the bay with Main Street dead ending here at Long Wharf.

These are some of the yachts that come in each summer from around the world. Its pretty common to have boats between 100 and 240 feet in the harbor. When I was younger, of course, this meant fresh batches of pretty female crew members from New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Sweden, etc...Now it just means added congestion on Main Street. <_<

Northwest Harbor just outside the village. The "Big Crik" as we call it.

Accabonac Harbor in East Hampton

Lovely downtown Montauk. Montauk was heavily invested in by Carl Fisher back in the 1930's(?). He was the same guy who built up Miami. He figured it would be his Miami in the north but I guess it didn't work out for him. Thats what accounts for this "skyscraper" in the country.

The Memory Motel in Montauk made famous in a Rolling Stones song....really. They were notorious for drunken, rowdy behavior at this bar.

Montauk Point Lighthouse commissioned by George Washington. If you started swimming from here you would end up in Portugal.

And I'll bet you guys thought the oldest cattle ranch in the US was in Texas....Nope, Montauk.

Back to the barn. Notice the local wildlife in this picture. :lol:

This one was from a Sport-Touring.net ride I went on, and we stopped on the Skyline Trail on Rt. 2.

Here are a couple shots from when a big tree came down near my house during a storm this summer.

Here's a bear skull "on display" on a trail I take my dog hiking frequently.

(I'm glad I got pics when I did, because a while later it lost a fang)

I also "discovered" the Vintage Trailbike Museum in Cheshire, MA this summer.

I realized that very few of my pictures are of around Orangevale and most are places I ride to around here. I'll have to take my camera on a bicycle ride with me to better get the local area.

Thanks for the photos folks. It is nice to see where normal people live....so if there are any normal people on this board please post. I realise I never take pics in my own neck of the woods. So now I have a project for my next ride.

PS: Axeman I do believe that if you start swimming from that lighthouse you willnot reach Portugal but, in fact, will drown.

Thanks for the memories. Sag Harbor is a wonderful place. I grew up on Long Island and my best friend and his wife still live in North Haven. I'm sorry to say that I haven't visited them in ages. Ken and Una are the best.

I won't bore you with more pictures of where I live, it's been covered many times of late. I just wish it weren't so far away from friends.

The boat you are in front of is the 205' "Intuition II" owned by Pat Malloy the owner of the Marina. It is a former Norwegian naval vessel that was refitted as a yacht and has a crew of 13. Its not the same yacht that is in the pic I posted. Coincidentally, my tenant was Intuitions full time carpenter on the boat until about 2 years ago.

That's them. One of the things I'm most impressed with about Sag Harbor is how close knit the community is. If you see them, say hi for me. I'm biased (I've known Ken since grade school) but I think they're the nicest folks on the planet. Heck, my Mom likes Una and Ken more than me and my Sister!

Dang, now I'm really bummin' that I'm so far away. Thanks for the info about the boat - I think that picture was taken around 2001...

I would love to do some riding in that part of the world.
