There is a bill in the Washington state legislature to remove the $30 weight-based license fee. It is House Bill 2325.

Just last week I emailed my reps to ask them why I have to pay the same fee for each of my two motorcycles as I do for my 3200+ lb SUV (I haven't received a reply from any of them yet). Then I noticed a blurb in the new AMA magazine about this bill.

Take a couple of seconds and email your State representatives to say you support this bill and ask them to do so as well. From what I can tell, it's been referred to the transportation committee but hasn't gone any further.

Use this link, then click on "comment on this bill".

The text of this bill removes the fee for motorcycles. It does not affect other vehicle weight fees which are set by statute. It is being put forth as an incentive to use motorcycles.

I lived in Wa. when the 30.00 tag thing was voted in and it seemed that what we saved on car tags was made up with other fees going up. I seem to remember the ferry fees going up quite a bit. It takes a lot of money to run any state. if it is to promote use of motorcycles you can bet there will be an increase somewhere to make up the shortfall. IMHO.
