It's a sexy beast still...I also like the refinements done to it (yay cruise control!; why didn't they put it on the ST to begin with?). It's very hard for me to justify replacing my 08 with two bikes in the garage right now, but I can see a Gen III in my future...

 
I wonder if the new electronics systems will have routine service indicators that require a special tool to reset, like newer Triumphs and BMWs.

 
The "settable range" is from 50 to 128 km/hr and the transmission must be in 3rd gear or higher
That's it? The cruise control setting tops out at 80 mph? <_<

Speaking for myself, digital speedometer sucks. With analog, I'm comfortable when I'm within 2-3 mph of my "target" cruising speed...
Big Sky brings up a good point. A "digits only" speed presentation is not at all optimal, both for the reason he brings up and for the fact that you lose the "trend" information that comes for free with an "analog" presentation. Humans are great at comparing ratios (like the "rate of change" of a sweeping needle); numbers, not so much.

The big numbers are great for us aging baby boomers, but a digital display is versatile enough that it could have been programmed to give more information. Say, the big numbers surrounded by a simulated needle sweep or some such...

 
I'm very surprised and entertained...not at the bike but at lots of you...color? 6thgear? ETC,ETC,ETC,???? Your memories are shorter than your dicks.....Go back a decade plus and you'll find an ass kicking ST available ONLY to the rest of the damn world...not to you effuse obese more winey than my goddamn 4th gear bunch would remember...but a guy named DALE helped start a campaign which I participated in to bring this UNOBTAINIUM colored machine to us riders...I may be old , short, stupid and worn out, much like my beloved ziggy, but I am damn glad to have any choice at all in these lawyer ridden lands thats not supersized of covered in cheese sauce...Thanks again Warchild...I am blessed AND grateful ! oh, and the new one will grow on me....not a great fan of FJR-1 looks...let it fester then..

I'm not sure where your quote is from. The US website appears to be silent on the specific speeds, however, the European website says, "Operating between 3rd and 5th gear from 50km/h to 180km/h, the latest cruise control system enhances riding enjoyment and allows the rider to respect speed limits."

That one translates to 111 mph....pretty reasonable IMO

Now I'm seeing it. You're probably talking about the Canadian website. It says 50 to 128. That *probably* means North American FJRs are going to have different cruise control limits than our European brethren.

If true that means it will be ripe fodder to be hacked. And if not hackable...somebody will probably be the first to swap out CPUs and be the envy of others at the next NAFO with cruise controls set to 85 an "Neener! Neener!" waves. ;)

6th gear and 1400cc I couldn't care less about....but where's the espresso maker????? :rolleyes:

...or the magic transformer switch that turns it into a 250 lbs dirt bike with knobblies?

 
I'd rather have the big digital numbers. Why? Because when I'm quickly accelerating or decelerating I'm too busy looking at where I'm going. Once I've settled into a steady speed I check the speedo if I'm so inclined, but by then I'll already know whether I'm being a bad boy or not. The really useful range of the analog speedo is so small it's barely useful in my opinion, so most of the time I end up looking at the GPS digital speed readout anyway.

 
Must admit that this Gen III is a nice lookin' bike with some good features.

I am really curious about this "D-Mode" thing. I noticed on pictures of the dash that the speedo has an area that reads "ECO". Wonder if this is related to "D-mode" and its an "economy" mode for the engine. Would be really interested to see what the real world difference is in range\mileage when running in "ECO" mode. Might be something the LD-IBR types could really take advantage of.

The price difference between the US and Canada blows chunks though.

Had they left the sweeping needle, we'd have members bitching that they didn't update the bike with a modern digital speedo. :D

 
What is the point of LED running lights incorporated into the headlight shell . . . .
