    how much juice

for you electrical gurus.. Is 4.5 volts enough to trigger the pull down coil in a 30 amp relay? I have 4.5 volts in the brake wire, key on engine off. Relay is used to ground the brake wire to the Rosta cruise which works great but occasionally drops out as if the brakes were applied. Perhaps a...

    Time to paint bag lids

Well, I guess it's time to paint the bag lids which are looking ratty...all pockmarked on the front from stones, a few scuffs on the right one from when the old man didn't swing his boot high enough, and a nasty scrape from a dog sized forest rat that glanced off one night.. I am thinking of...

    ignition switch failure

It's said that misery loves company...so...ignition switch failure is not limited to FJRs.. Way the hell up in East Poultney, Vt. my friends Blackbird would not start, no lights, dash , nada..He cycled the switch and it started, then stalled-completely dead. After dicking around with it for a...

    need electrical advice

So I want to power my garage with a generator when the grid goes down. The plan is to run a cable from the generator to the 240 volt 50 amp three prong outlet where the welder plugs in. The generator has a 240 volt four prong L14-30R outlet. Two prongs put out 130 volts each-one prong is ground...

    Hyper-Lite guys are aces

Over a year ago I stuck a pair of Hyper-Lite running lights on each reflector on the license plate bracket and tapped the plate light for power and ground. They are bright enough to make you see spots. Last week I noticed that 4 of the 8 LED's were out on one module and 1 on the other side was...

    mirror blind spot redux

I think I have read everything on improving the FJR mirrors. Don't like spot mirrors or spoiling the FJR's clean lines by sprouting more mirrors or FZ1 mirrors. Anyhew it seems to me that the problem of the blind spot could be cured if the mirror glass or housing could be angled out more. I...

    parasitic Datel?

I searched the hell out of this so kindly refrain from pelting me with fecal matter-I want to wire my cool new 2 wire led Datel meter directly to the battery-info on the board indicated that the most accurate reading is there. Since it would be on all the time would the constant draw be a...

    built in tank prop

I've read all kinds of ideas for holding up the tank but havn't come across this..After lifting the tank turn the handlebars full lock one way or another and the tank will rest on a handgrip, if more room is needed put your bud's sneaker or wife's purse or whatever between the grip and the tank...

    grease expensive in Japan?

First thing I did to my used 6 month old FJR was to check the driveshaft and u-joint splines as per the forum...dry and starting to rust with only 4500k on it..Next the brake pedal pivot-notchy and squeaking..same thing for the clutch and brake levers. Now I know the swingarm bearings and...

    yammie touring shield pics

Somewhere on this forum are pictures of the Yamaha touring shield compared to other shields. smooth shift

After ham fisting[footing?] a first to second shift at redline I wonder how tough the gear dogs on this bike are . I know my old FJ1200 could take the abuse-I hope the FJR can too. Did Yamaha undercut the dogs for us? I've done gear swaps before and would rather not!

    mommies windshield

All kinds of back and forth on aftermarket shields..has anyone tried the optional taller shield from Yamaha? The price is right and its supposed to have a new harder surface and I would think it might fit all Gen II bikes.?
