Here is the installation:

First removal of the staples from the OEM seat. You can use a flat blade screwdriver, but this staple remover does a cleaner job and is easier to remove the staples.

Then removing of the OEM foam. There was glue only on the front aspect of the seat pan

I used this spray glue to the front of the seat pan to install the new Seatconcepts foam(much higher density foam than OEM)

This is the comparo of the stock foam to the Seatconcepts foam. Notice that the vinyl cover is already partially installed on the Seatconcepts foam to keep the dished section of the vinyl down.

The OEM seat does not come with any waterproofing plastic liner between the vinyl and foam. Seatconcepts provides this waterproofing liner so I layed it overtop of the foam and then put the vinyl on top.

Finished product!

Installed on the bike. You can see the OEM pillion seat and the Seatconcepts seat to see the difference in vinyl. I also have the vinyl covering for the pillion seat, but have not installed it yet. We FJR inmates need to bug the owners of Seatconcepts to make a pillion seat foam too!

Cheers!

I will follow-up with a ride soon, just need to find some free time in the next day or so, to get out for an extended ride before the snow flies.

Can't tell about "lower than stock", but I'm sure rszk will let us know.

Terribly interested in this, sir. Be as detailed as you can with your data-collection ride, please.

After almost 18,500 miles on the stock seat, I've realized it slopes slightly towards the tank. After several score miles, my butt starts slipping downhill -- towards the tank -- at a glacial pace. It becomes noticeable when the tendons / ligaments / muscles / flesh / skin / whatnot gets stretched. (Think "rack", that medieval torture device.)

The Seat Concepts webpage mentions two of my hot buttons: 'wider than stock' (sitz bones) and 'slopes towards pillion seat' (ding, ding!). And yet it looks thin enough to hang my butt off when cornering hard.

Very nice. I like how subtle the difference is. It's not like this huge dished out seat like a Corbin, RDL, or even the Laam. Obviously with those you have a little more customization available.. but if the ride report is positive this could be a very nice alternative. I also like how it's a DIY mod so you aren't without your seat for weeks.

I, too, am curious to know if it's lower than stock.

As for positioning - does it seem to lock you into place towards the back? Personally I think I sit somewhat closer to the tank just because I'm not very tall.

Thanks for the pics. Is it just me or does it look lower than stock?
Okay, just got back from a 25 minute ride with the wifey, so here is *ahem* my seat of the pants quick observation.

First of all my specs:

5'7" during low gravitational pull, 180lb, 30 inch inseam.

When you order your seat, they will ask you for your "true" weight, so don't fluff it up!

1. No more push to the tank!

2. Slightly lower than stock. I'm not sure if its a combination of the reshaped front portion or the flattened middle section that allows me to get to the ground easier ("yay"). I think it would be equivalent to maybe 0.5" or 15mm difference. I think the main difference is less leg splay.

3. The rear portion of the seat cups your buns and is wider than stock Definitely feels great. Haven't measured it though.

4. Less push to the tank equals less wrist/hand pressure to the bars.

5. Feels like I'm lengthened out a tad more in upper torso due to the flattening of the seat.

6. I know that the seat will settle in or break in like the other 2 Seatconcepts seats I've owned. It usually takes about 1000km from previous experience.

That's it for now. I can respond more, once I get more seat time.

cheers

Rod

I'm like the same height and inseam as you and about 10 more lbs, (down about 15 lately and still working on that)... so your info really will mean a lot to me.

Taking a road trip next week on the stocker... this might be on the short list if it's painful.

Good looking seat RSZK, is the surface "grippy" or can you move around on it?

Do you notice any change in seat to peg height, increased bend in knees?

xcsp,

The seat is grippy for sure. You have to lift a bit to adjust. I have had the pure carbon seat and it's too slippery, especially with a powerful engine. The gripper Seatconcepts seat is similar to the OEM seat.

I was trying to feel for change on the footpeg height and knee bend, but it wasn't enough to notice, but then again I'm short of stature. I noticed more the slight lengthening to reach the bars.

Cheers

Rod

Nice looking seat. Although I have a LAAM on the '15, good to hear this is another alternative to check out.

@xcsp - I had Seth use a grippier material on my Tenere's LAAM seat. No worries moving around, works well.

Just got back from a 2 hour solo no stopping to get off ride.

Here are more impressions of this seat.

The foam has just enough softness and firmness for this extended ride. I am able to adjust forward and rear. The seat does not lock you in one position. Mostly I was just looking around and enjoying the fall weather, listening to the engine and gear whine, not paying attention to my ass as I wasn't getting a hint of uncomfortable butt syndrome. I won't be able to do the multi-hour rides as we are so close to winter now. Usually after 2 hours on the OEM seat, I'm wishing for a rest butt stop. I think it will be a winner!

Merci, mon ami. Thank you, my friend. (<----- A Southern boy attempts to be Canadian.)

Since my GPS committed suicide, requiring financial commitments to replace it, I think Santa's going to get asked for this instead of a Laam. DIY aspect will be interesting .........

<edit 10 mins later> Santa said. "What the hell, man?" I'll have a tracking number tomorrow.

Sorry Uncle Hud, but no French in my abilities out in the West. I'm also an Island transplant from decades ago when I was 2.

Thanks for the effort though!!

So I decided to take some photos of the width of the seat so everyone can better see the sizing difference as well. Sorry the tape measure isn't 100% straight, but you get the idea. Here it is:

For reference, I measured the same way as you did, my Laam seat measured 16".

This is a definite option for me. After a day or 2 of full riding I get a pain at my upper thigh and but cheek, about where the seam of my boxer briefs are. I thought this was the issue but my last trip I bought boxers and still the same pain. I think its where the stock foam pushes into my leg. I need an affordable option as I have a lot of stuff to buy.

I'm hoping that people enquiring with Seatconcepts will also enquire about a foam replacement for the passenger seat as well. Would be nice option for those that need it too.

Isn't one of the options new foam for the passenger seat also? I've only been there on my phone and the site is kind of mobile-tarded.

Nope. Just a matching cover for the OEM foam. I ordered the matching vinyl cover, but would vastly prefer a better foam too for the wife.
