Are those trucks crossing double yellow lines? Do they have insurance policies? Seems like some hefty settlements to people who were injured by their client's breaking the law might change some attitudes. Do you know any LEO's who'd be up for an easy afternoon of writing tickets?
Here's an answer to your first question.

"Thank you for your e-mail regarding safety concerns along U.S. Route 421 in Johnson and Sullivan Counties and State Routes 91 and 133 in Carter and Johnson Counties.
Our Regional Traffic Office in Knoxville is presently reviewing these routes for potential sign improvements at the request of Senator Ramsey. The Department has placed truck advisory signs along U.S. 421 to inform motorists of the curvature along this roadway. However, we will review our current signs and consider any potential improvements that may be possible.

Thank you again for your e-mail and if you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Regional Traffic Office at (865) 594-2456."

Sincerely,

Fred B. Corum

Hopefully they will actually do something...but it may atake a year or more. OTH, it could be a form letter or a response typed out by a "cubicle drone".

Very true. Joe Howard himself is at least recovered enough that he can use a PC and a phone. I'll copy his last post about the matter and post it up here.

I just found this thread thanks to Roger's bump. I signed the petition for myself and also signed up my wife. I'm working on the emails. Thanks a lot Rick for getting this started.
I talked with my Mom about this situation shortly after I got out of ICU and into Rehab. She is the Register of Deeds for Carter County and knows a lot of politicians. She has talked to Carter County Representative Kent Williams. He, in turn, has talked to Jason Mumpower, Johnson County Rep.. He also talked with Ron Ramsey, who has a lot of power since he is Lt. Governor and works directly with TDOT. He also stated that he would talk to the TDOT official with the authority to act on this situation. So this should help in our attempt to get these trucks off the road or escorted across the mountain.

Thanks again Rick and thanks Roger for posting to this thread or I wouldn't have seen it. I guess I need to go back and catch up on the two months I missed while I was in the hospital.

The problem as I see it is that there are just a handful of riders protesting the mass flow from trucking companies. Those companies represent big revenue to the State of Tennessee so no one that has any power to make changes is willing to stick their neck out politically. I could be wrong, but money drives everything, and ambulance chasing lawyers just don't have a big market on the mountain.

Roger
