555 miles today… I know for my Iron Butt friends, that’s just a warm up… but for my Aluminum Butt, it’s a long day! Luckily the 80mph speed limit helps eat up the miles and the freeway is actually kind of pretty through the changing landscapes. Treasures today included a late breakfast with Nick in Bozeman, a meet up with Michelle on my way through Missoula, and finishing up the day with a romp down Lolo Pass which is in dire need of some repaving… the speed limit is 50 mph and there are times when it’s a challenge to respect it but there is a very dedicated officer in those parts and he was out today… lit up a car going the other way at 5pm on a Thursday… oh and I only saw one deer but missed it because I was slowing down to take a picture… see - taking pictures saves lives! ;)

The bike held together in one piece and I arrived in Kamiah, ID for the evening… thank goodness for zip ties!! lol Tomorrow will be heading for Woodinville to attend a wedding (not mine! lol) and visit with friends…

Morning sky…

Oh boy!

Panoramic view along Lolo Pass…

Lots of this on Lolo Pass… twisting ribbons of asphalt running alongside a river with a bunch of trees… boring!

Friday/Saturday/Sunday, June 29/30/July 1, 2018

Headed out on the other end of Hwy 12 and it was a nice morning… overcast and cool but no rain… not a ton of road photos as I was on a mission to get to Woodinville… I got to Snowqualmie Pass and checked the rear fender and it was not looking in very good shape… it had shifted so much that the license plate frame was almost resting on the tire… didn’t feel comfortable riding it the rest of the way so AAA to the rescue for a tow… dropped it off at Ride Motorsports to see if they might be able to do a fix on it the next day and then joined some PNW friends for a great dinner… was having so much fun I didn’t even take any photos!

Saturday morning was checking in with the service department at the dealer and they said they really didn’t have any openings to work on it… he discussed a fix with JayH (thank goodness he was there to talk the talk) and we took the bike over to Jay’s house where he and Dave/Niehart proceeded to remove the fender and shore up ABS lines and the like… so very grateful for friends who give of their time and energy to help me out!

Then it was off to my friend, Paula, for her son’s wedding that evening… lots of running around and setting things up as it was at their home but it turned out beautiful and they both said “I do!” Caught a Lyft back to my AirBnB and climbed into bed exhausted but happy and relieved that I would be able to continue my trip!

Sunday I took Jay, his wife, Barb, and Dave/Niehart out to breakfast as a thank you for helping me out and then hung out with Paula and Matthew the rest of the day since we hadn’t had a whole lot of time to visit the day before… tomorrow morning will head out for Hood River.

Great colors along the way…

Getting a lift at Snoqualmie Pass… my driver reminded me of Adam Sandler…he was funny so it made the drive in to Woodinville kind of entertaining!

My AirBnb tiny house in Woodinville… a third of what they were charging for a hotel room in the area and a delight to stay in!

Jay in the process of getting Sybil’s rear end nekkid….

I was put in charge of decorating the wedding arch with a couple of other people…

Roses in the front yard…

Flowers at the reception…

We clean up okay…

Great day today riding through Mount Rainier and then NF25 past Mount St. Helens… Windy Ridge/99 was closed so didn’t make it out to the mountain itself but had fun on 25… lots of buckling and heaves on the road but mostly on the other side luckily… when I rode it going the other way in 2013, I spent a lot of time on the other side of the road to avoid that stuff… which reminded me that Sybil is 5 years old now!

Had coffee with Jami, one of my former dance students, and got caught up on life and then headed into Hood River to stay with Danny and family… great home cooked meal, got to see him in action with some of his photographs, and cuddled with Willa (their dog)… staying pretty cool around these parts but that will change tomorrow when I head for Anderson… it’s supposed to be “cooler” and “only” 99 degrees!

Found a potential hitchhiker outside my AirBnB in Woodinville…

Mount Rainier in the background…

Coming down from Mount Rainier… 46 degrees!

A couple of short unpaved sections on NF25…

For Wayne/extrememarine as he recuperates…

River/creek views on NF 25…

Tons of these along the roadside…

Some nasty heaving and buckling on NF25… must be vigilant… but the views are worth it!

View of Mt. St. Helens and moi…

Peaceful views…

Coming in to Hood River…

Magnolia blossom… this thing was huge!!

My digs for the evening… affectionately termed The Cave but it was way nicer than that…

Danny decided to tag along with me for a little bit and we headed out in cool temps but sunny skies... it was a day of mounting... Mount Hood, Mount Adams, Three Sisters, and Mount Shasta. Gorgeous views and the weather stayed cool for the majority of the day... the drone down 97 was frustrating because there was so much traffic, it was a challenge to pass slower vehicles but had the good fortune to have lunch with Ann in Bend and catch up... 450 miles later, finally arrived at Jan & Lisa's new place in Anderson, CA on 10 acres to house all their rescue critters (Tiny Tim's Pals Animal Rescue) and I got to pet and snuggle with lots of them including Potato, a mini pot belly pig, who had just been neutered that day and was under house arrest while healing up... nothing like finding a pig in the bathroom when you have to pee! LOL It was a great visit and I was treated to another wonderful meal and a good night's rest... tomorrow will be heading home... can't believe it's almost over!

Got Danny away from his camera for a bit (he’s an incredibly talented photographer!)…

First view of Mount Hood…

More Mount Hood…

Wheeeeee!

Sun sparkling down on Frog Lake…

Aaaaannnndddd… scene change!

Mount Shasta…

Are you looking at me??

Yes… there’s a chicken in the tree!

Ever had that feeling you’re being watched?

Nothing like snuggling with a pig…

Potato… look at that face!!

Wednesday, July 4, 2018 – Homeward Bound

A leisurely morning and lovely visit with Kaarin and Mike and their two boys who I think had a great time at the ranch checking out all the various critters... I delayed my departure as long as I could but it was time to turn the beast for home... pointed the bike south, cranked up the tunes, twisted the throttle, and set the cruise control for the slab ride home... traffic was very light and I arrived safe and (somewhat) sound. Unpacked the bike, changed out of my riding gear, and took a little walk down the road to the pond to commune with nature and celebrate being home.

The road to/from my friends’ place in Anderson…

Lots of haze and smoke from the Clear Lake fire… :(

TRIP RECAP

(S)miles = 5,662

Countries = two

Provinces = two

States = seven

Weight loss = 6 pounds (I think I'm going to start a new fad diet... the moto travel diet! lol)

Casualties = one rear fender
Gratitude = endless

Back where we started… a bit dirtier and she lost a bit of weight (rear fender) but she got me home…

I truly feel so blessed for so many reasons - to even still be on this planet and able to do a trip like this... for a job / employer that allows me to do this (thank you, Jen! <3 )... for so many friends that opened their homes (and garages!) to me and treated me so well... to see friends from far and wide and add a few more to the mix... to arrive home safely... to have been able to experience the magic and wonder in this world on so many levels... blessed almost seems like an understatement!

I've said this often but life is precious and fleeting... go out there and do what makes your heart happy in whatever way you can… doesn’t have to be 3-1/2 weeks to be epic… make things happen to what fits in your life... the world is an amazing place! :D

Everything is ducky…

Dusk settling in…

Spyder looks good with a naked ass end
Yeah I'm kind of liking it too... now to figure out how attach the license plate without replacing the fender... and dealing with the dealer on getting the broken parts fixed... ;)

Damn girl you laid down some miles! Thanks for the great ride photo's and sharing some time with us in WA! Jay
Jay, one of the silver linings of all of the falderal with the rear fender was getting to spend time with you and Barb...oh, and that other dude... what was his name?? ;)

Thanks again for your assistance on getting me back on the road to finish the trip in proper fashion!! B)

Thanks for this incredible report, I wish we had stopped at as many places to take the photos you did but the roads were awesome.

I think I know the secret to the weight lose, not one picture of the food porn. Did you eat at all?

:lol: Well, I did but it's interesting that when I'm riding, I'm just not hungry... I have a granola bar in the morning, maybe some trail mix here and there during the day, and then a light dinner... maybe because my mind is occupied with riding and the sights I'm seeing or something... B)

I couldn’t agree with this statement more Tyler. I just recently got back from my epic Edelweiss journey over to the Adriatic. Got to enjoy Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean coastline with good friends and my brother for 10 awesome days. There is so much to see in our great country but I also want to see much more of Europe. The riding is phenomenal over there. Of course, it comes with a pricetag, so that makes it difficult or impossible for many to indulge, but it is, as they say, the trip of a lifetime!! Get out there and ride, wherever it may take you.

As always, really enjoyed the RR and pics Tyler!!
