Out of curiosity, how did you mod the glove box door? Did you just get rid of the elctric lock?

I've been thinking of rewiring the lock so it unlatches with "key-on" instead of neutral. I hate that nanny feature... :angry:

But I have been too lazy to do anything about it thus far. :rolleyes:

I put some velcro on the bottom of this opener and the top lid of the glove box. On the the gen2 bikes you can open the glove box ingear so it's easy to pop it open and hit the button. Transfers easy from bike to bike.

Mine has always worked like that :unsure: As long as the key is on it opens.

Ditto to inside of the glove box lid. Also, my latch broke for the glove box so I used velcro on the latch and the put the mating side down into the latch. No sense in spending over 100 dollars for a new box. The velcro works great. :ph34r:

 
I have my remote stuck to the inside of the box near the top facing away from me. It is easy to use even with heavy winter gloves. And there is no added weight to the lid. On the 06 the box can be opened in gear or in neutral.

Cruzin,

since folks have been very helpful to me on this forum... I wanted to let you know that I purchased 50' of 30guage low voltage wire and a 4 pack of "Momentary On" micro switches from Radio Shack for less than $5 today. I installed a switch on my AE as seen in the pictures. I used a soldering gun to connnect the wires to the switch, then took the remote apart. Find the poles that the remote switch is soldered to, then melt the solder on the circuit board. Stick the wire in the hot solder and let it cool. I simply zip tied the old remote under my grip heater switch on the left side. (The grip heaters have been handy since it's been in the low 20's on my ride in to work every morning) Tape up the small wires and route it under the bar. Test everything before you button things up. Whalah, you have a new remote switch wired.

Total cost: 2 cold beers and $5 in parts

Total time: 1 hour start to finish

Ok, can someone do a sanity check on this for me before I heat up the soder gun?

In the below pic, the red outline is the back side of the button on the opener. Do I soder the wires from the switch onto the two posts (for lack of a better term) that are outlined in light blue? Does it matter which side for which wire?

It does not matter which side, it is to make contact, make sure your switch is a momentary "ON" not momentary "OFF" when you push it, I used door bell wire, and made sure the wire is secured to opener so it won't pull out.

So those are the correct places to soder the wires from the switch then?

It also comes in handy for use in a pocket or another vehicle.

I'm blessed along with this setup. A block around the corner from my house, there's a stop sign, then a large gutter/dip about one gear shift from there. Wind up in first, hit neutral, pop the glove box lid, hit second as I roll through the dip. Then, I can push the button after I round the corner and roll into my spot in the garage without hesitation. :yahoo:

I also have my registration and insurance info in there, clipped to a weight and four quarters (for parking meters), so it doesn't fly out in case I forget to shut the lid and subsequently hit the big digits on my way out...

Just test it to make sure. Touch a jumper (paperclip, small piece of wire) between those two solder points. If your garage door opens, they're the right ones. If not, touch some of those bigger points around those.

Well, it wasnt the litte ones in the middle after all, but the two bigger round ones to the left on the pic right above the unside down 4. Guess I gotta get out the sodering iron...

I got it all soldered and installed today. Put in an Autoswitch hooked to the brake. Now I just have to tap the brakes twice in 1.2 sec as I approach the house and the door opens. Since I had the Hyperlights already tapped with Posi Taps it only took me about 15 min to install.

My only concern with this is if I inadvertently tap the brakes twice on my way out of the neighborhood and open the door as I leave for the day. Next time I have the tank up I will probably run the wire up to the high beam switch or windshield switch to avoid that possibility.

After checking out the website for this device, I'm hooked. The only thing I'd do different is connect the relay switch to the horn button. A quick "double-tap" on the horn as I'm pulling in to the driveway will open the door AND notify Missus Howie that I'm home, time to get off her ass, get me a beer, start dinner and get undressed. :yahoo:
