This is just so much freaking fun. The guy in New Orleans might be getting pummeled by some storms. I'm guessing that may be why he seems to be statinary at the moment. At a place called "Iggy's" no less.
I caught a screen shot of the rider who went to New Orleans (I laughed pretty hard when I zoomed in):

Can't be far of BBG pace for some riders to get back in time.
26 hours to get back and at least the one near Umatilla is 1300 miles if they snag just the John Day one. My guess is they're snagging some others on the way, but I'd say they're right in the butter range for miles per day for the IBR. The rubber band is starting to tug on those outliers though.....

Ol' Fazerphil (if that's him) is 900 miles from home and still picking up bonii.........just left Cane River Creole near Natchez, LA.

Go, man, go!

Somebody asked about lag time or latency with Spotwalla.

I was hanging out on the side of I-85 last weekend at 1:30 am waiting for Twigg to ride by -- I was going to tag along through Atlanta and perhaps boost his energy level a bit. Had the phone and was following his track.

He was spotting every 10 minutes, but the spot was getting posted on Spotwalla 10 minutes after that. That is, his 1:30 AM spot would appear on Spotwalla at -- real time -- 1:40 or perhaps 1:42 or 1:43.

So, when I decided to move from the closed gas station to wait on the freeway entrance ramp, several minutes before I figured he'd flash by, he was already 10 minutes beyond me. And a 10-minute head start at 70 mph is too risky to close on a public highway.

Fixed it for ya :D

It's awesome that you did that and I am very sorry we missed each other. I would have enjoyed the company .... Thank you

You have quiet pipes. sir. And it was my pleasure -- a really nice night.

Actual transcription of so many call-ins is priceless! I can hear Eric, Jim, and others actually talking. Thank you Chris Cimino for going to this extra effort!

And the Bull Durham reference..... Iced tea. Monitor. Getting a rag to clean it up.

I don't understand. Are all 87 riders expected to check in at 8:00?

It opens at 8:00 and I believe the window is from 8:00 to 10:00. After that it ain't pretty.

Not all at 8, no. Check-in takes about 5-10 seconds and stops the clock. If all 80 showed up at exactly 8:00:00 it could be an issue, but practically speaking it is not. Many will be there hours earlier....scoring as early as 5 p.m. IIRC. However, once the clock stops they have a certain amount of time to make it through scoring and that takes some hours depending one when you arrive.

The Checkpoint window is, in effect, the penalty point window prior to DNF. It confused the crap out of me some years ago when I first encountered the concept.

The riders have to be in BEFORE the window opens at 8.00pm, or they will accrue penalties and be time-barred at 10.00 pm. They can check-in anytime before 8 and scoring will begin as early as 5pm

Kinda. The PENALTY window opens at 8 pm and runs until 10 pm. After 10 pm, DNF.In other words, you aim for 8 pm as the deadline and arrive before then.

As noted, scoring starts at 5 pm. Many riders will arrive before then, clean up, relax, then come down to score.
