Thanks for the heads up on the ferry; I may be taking it to or from NS.

I did a quick measurement on the map and the straight line distance for the ferry from Portland is 335 Km's (208 miles) and from Bar Harbor is 180 Km's (111 miles). That should significantly reduce the trip time.

It doesn't look like the Cat will be in service in time. This from the Bay Ferries web site :

" Update June 21, 2019 As previously advised, it is anticipated that the earliest date on which any service could commence is in the mid-summer. At this time, all reservations prior to and including July 18, 2019, will be canceled and passengers will be re-routed, subject to customer wishes and availability to MV Fundy Rose (traveling between Saint John, NB and Digby, NS). Progress will be continually assessed and the company will communicate directly with its customers and the public once further parameters are known. Bay Ferries Limited deeply regrets any inconvenience caused to our customers. We will continue to provide updates on ferries.ca and please feel free to contact us anytime at 1-877-762-7245. "

While the "Cat" fast ferry is an interesting trip, don't look at it as a way to save time. For $99 USD (plus $10 "port fee") per person and another $101 for your motorcycle, you can arrive at the ferry in Bar Harbor a minimum of an hour before the 3 PM sailing. 3.5 hour passage, probably a half hour (likely more) to disembark and clear customs and then a 2.5 hour ride to Mahone Bay (Shore Cycle). Call it 7 to 7.5 hours minimum, assuming you were already in the immediate vicinity of Bar Harbor. This is compared to an 8 hour highway ride and two tanks of gas from Bar Harbor to Mahone Bay. Also, the boat lands in Yarmouth ~7:30 PM (local time - you lose an hour time difference from ME to NS) so it would be at least 10:00 PM before you could get to Mahone Bay - certainly after dark. I guess you could get a hotel in Yarmouth and head out EARLY in the morning - hotels are likely booked well in advance if the ferry is running. Timing works a little better for the trip back - leaves 9:30 AM from Yarmouth. All academic since the ferry won't be running anyway.

Same deal with the ferry from Saint John to Digby - not much, if any, time savings and there is significant cost.

I would like to get there but not sure I can manage it! Will know better in a few days. (I would likely get to Halifax Friday night and stay with friends and head out for an hour's ride (2 hr if I take the very scenic coastal route) to Shore Cycle Saturday AM.)

I’ve been keeping an eye on the weather and it looks like Saturday is going to be wet. I have already received several calls from riders that decided not to attend because of this.

With the expected low numbers, I am going to postpone the ride for a later date.

Too bad - hope you can find a suitable alternative date for this event!

Coastal riding on a wet/foggy/drizzly day isn't much fun. You don't get to see very much.

 
I left Bangor Friday morning after finding that the Digby ferry was fully booked for the mid-day run. So between that and the rain, I was out. I did get royally soaked for about five hours on my way to Cape Breton. I’m in Port aux Basques, Newfoundland tonight and for another week or so.

On my way home I will likely take the South shore to Halifax , Yarmouth and then Digby. If anyone would like to share an evening beer or meal, that would be fun.

From where you are in PaB, take a morning ride out along the coast to Rose Blanche, if the weather is good. Beautiful way to start the day. About 45 minutes each way.
