It must have been me. Thank you. I met the wife for lunch on Wednesday in Duvall. Got a pretty good deal on it at Adventure Motor Sports. I used to commute around on a DR 650 so you know I'm loving this.

My photography needs some work on lighting, but this is my Red, White, and Blue collection. And need to get the ladder to repair siding in latest winds.

I went for a short 100 mile loop this morning, with a friend on his new Suzuki GSX-S1000. I told him to meet me at Snake River Yamaha, and we'd leave from there.

I pulled in just in time to see a very proud individual taking delivery of a brand new ES. I asked him if he is on the forum, but he said he has not yet been on the site. I told him to look me up on the forum so we could do some rides, and in fact invited him along on today's ride. He said he couldn't make it today, as he had to go to work to pay for the new bike. Hopefully we'll see him here.

The nearest Supercharger is 92 miles north, another is 130 miles east, and another is 230 miles south (essentially out of reasonable range). Full charge is 265 miles, I charge to 220 miles. For best battery life one should stay out of the top 10% and bottom 10%, as close to the middle of battery charge.

https://supercharge.info says there are 259 Supercharger sites in the USA at the moment. (See map). Most are spaced about 100 miles apart to facilitate cross-country travel. Use of Superchargers is free to Tesla owners and not available to anyone else at any price. Uses a unique plug and protocol. Planning on 430 miles (each way) to the Dayton Hamvention this year.

Have been to "Tag Day" at Barber Vintage Museum and Motorsports Park twice so I've done 8 laps in the Tesla. Even supposed 55 MPH escorted "parade lap" my average energy consumption was 3x that of 70 MPH interstate. Fortunately there is a friendly Nissan dealer in Hoover with 50 kW CHAdeMO so I can top off enough to play on the track and get home. Briefly a year or so ago Alabama Power had placed two EVSE's at the museum but they were painfully slow charging at 12 MPH. Then one day they were gone. The museum expansion currently under construction occupies their space.

Rarely charge anywhere but at home. A 240V 50A circuit puts 29 miles of range in the battery per hour. Confuses people to say "29 MPH" but thats what it does. A 120 kW Supercharger can put 170 miles in the battery in 30 minutes but that is 3x the 200A service wired to my home.

I often drive a 150 mile day to TN and back without charging. At 10¢/kWh my "fuel" costs about 3¢/mile. Same as 50 MPG on $1.50/gallon gasoline.

Mandatory FJR content: I drove the Tesla at least twice to the Yamaha dealer in purchase of my FJR. Didn't drive the Tesla today, but did put 100 miles on the FJR!

Thanks for posting this. I was thinking the other day what is the cost per mile to drive an electric.

The "fuel" is cheap and there is no scheduled maintenance for the driveline. But the initial purchase price will never be recovered in savings.

Another note: most of the current 259 Supercharger sites will charge 8 at a time. Some more. Some only 6.

 
I was surprised to see charging stations in the parking garages in Gatlinburg, Knoxville and Phoenix last fall. Most had at least 8 stations and the reserved parking was right by the entrance/exit so you get exclusive parking to boot.

 
Well - at least the tires are scrubbed in. Hope the weather turns soon.

The snow is going to be done for SEOR, yes? Pants gets his tootsies chilly when it gets below 50....
