Artist Point near Mt. Baker Washington

Recently I road to Artist Point. This was my first ride after riding to Colorado. This seemed like a good destination as it offers quite a bit of contrast to Colorado and most of places I visited during the Colorado ride. Lots of trees, moss, ferns and moisture loving vegetation including one northwest slug, me, plus a couple of other local slugs. Nice to be back home in the land of natural summer air conditioning.

Within a couple of miles from home I shot my first photo.

Mt Rainier near the main road near my home.

Along the way I meet up with George and Harlan. We enjoy coffee at McDonald’s in Sedro-Wooley. Why not Woolley-Sedro or

Next photo is a along Mosquito Lake Road.

We start to climb out of the forest and get our first view. It was a nice day!

What caught my eye in the next photo was the flat top on the peak in the upper right of this pic. Odd indeed.

The Artist Point parking to is nearly 5000 ft elevation and there was about 4 feet of snow on the ground.

Mt Shuksan and that area looks very scenic. I was hoping to get up there Mid-August, but it seems like it is not to be this year. Very pretty pictures, great countryside there up north!

It is very scenic up here. The difference between Colorado and Western Washington is the trees in Western Washington are persistent from sea level to tree line at 6500 feet. No paved road is above 6800' in Washington so trees are persistent. Not so in Colorado. The mountains areas and forest lands are separated by lots of dry range land.

It is extremely scenic in Colorado mountains yet the most scenic areas are separated by lots of range land.

Eastern Washington, well that is a more diverse area.

It certainly is and your pictures do it justice. I need to find my way up there sometime soon. I only made it as far as Mt. Rainier last time and that was pretty impressive in itself! :)

Nice! Just looking at the coolness of white snow in the pix makes me jones to get the phuck outta centralKali ASAP.

Thanks for making me appreciate just how miserable I am.

:fuck:

Hugs n' Kisses

Great report and pictures, living in the area I'm not sure why it never occurred to me to head up to Baker. Curious, how long did the ride take?

It is about an 8 hour day from my house in South Seattle but that includes lunch and Mosquito Lake Road. Just the drive from Woodinville is about 2.5 hours each way. Easy day.

And consider this a bump for Carver to let him know we know how miserable he is.
