Hello and thanks for incuding me. After 20 years of riding BMW boxers I now have a 2008 FJR. My first bike was a 1976 R90/6 that I had for about 17 years. I then had a 2004 R1150RT for about 3&1/2. For onto the FJR after heading to a rally upon which my cousins bike suffered drive train issues which led to him buying my bike and me finding my new ride.
I find it a little more comfortable for me. I don't know the service history. Changed the oil, final drive fluid, air filter, and antifreeze last weekend. It had 36, 000 miles when I bought it, any 1,000 more now. Tires look good but are 2015 stock Dunlop RoadMax(?). Has aftermarket cruise control, highway pegs, Corbin heated seats, but looking for factory top case.
I live in Omaha Nebraska. Living the bike so far and hope to get many years of enjoyment and at least a hundred thousand more miles from it. Again thanks for the inclusion, happy to be part of the group!

Roadsmart, maybe? Current iteration from Dunlop is the Roadsmart IV. I had a set of RS II in 2010 and hated them. Ran several sets of RS III over the years and felt they were great value. Currently have a set of Roadsmart IV waiting in the wings. I would probably use up the 2015 vintage tires if they didn't appear oxidized and have surface cracks, but probably wouldn't push them very hard - an eight year old tire is beyond the "best before" date. A zillion tire threads here - everyone has their favorites - Dunlop, Michelin, Avon, Pirelli, Metzeler, Shinko, Continental, Bridgestone etc!!

Another 100,000 relatively trouble-free miles is certainly possible - perhaps even probable. I sold my '07 with 186,000 miles and no significant issues. My current 2011 with 100,000 miles is still essentially perfect and haven't replaced ANYTHING other than fork seals, a set of brake pads and a shifter rubber. (Battery and headlights are still original!!) (Gas, oil, final drive fluid, brake fluid, lube, coolant, spark plugs as part of regular operation/maintenance and that's it!)

2008 had two factory recalls - ignition switch and a ground junction ("spider" as discussed at length on this forum). "Spider" recall detail, below:

Yamaha dealer can check to see if these recalls were performed from your VIN

The only significant issues with the early GEN II FJRs are electrical and these can be mitigated with proper maintenance (and repaired if you can swing a soldering iron). The "Spider" recall deals with one common point of failure but there are one or two other similar ground junctions that have failed on some bikes. Thanks for the input! Just checked and yes they are the Roadsmart 2s. They seem to be okay so far and I don't do very spirited riding but will likely start budgeting for a new set.
I'll look into the recalls, thanks. The ignition has been replaced, but not sure on the other so good to be informed it's out there. I will check out your links soon. Thanks again!
 
Welcome from Western Mass, I also rode BMWs for many years, and experienced "Final Drive Failure" firsthand. The other thing that was a deal breaker was how my boxer would OVERHEAT in stop & go traffic. (05 R 1200 ST) The FJR requires fewer "Special Tools" to maintain, and in general it's an easier bike to own, plus it hasn't overheated yet. By far less expensive all the way around.
