Did he find a new preference while out in the boondocks? or?

Come ON UberLateToPostRRKewl, let's get this show rawkin'

The pics are done but the report is taking some time. Free time and inspiration are working against me. I'll start piecing in what I have so far tomorrow. This is why I could never be a motto journalist. I'm all motto and no journal.

Also want to report on the gear because I had excellent experience with most of my stuff and just need a few tweaks for the next big thing.

Welcome back, Brad. Some of these voyeurs apparently don't know the rule about having to pay for an extended vacation when you get back -- in currency, but especially with your [no longer] free time. Take your time . . . unless one of these impatient and grinning galutes is paying you on deadline.

The tread to hair ratio falls heavily towards the Heidenau K60. Both fresh, road ready and naive of what’s to come.

Of course we got antsy and left after a going away party at Don’s house. Riding to Don’s daughters apartment in Redding would give us a jump on the big run up to Bothell, WA the next day.

20140621-_1060776-L.jpg

Protective coating of bugs and we haven't even started riding.

Mt. Shasta.

20140621-_1060784-L.jpg

Don Took a little gnome with him called George. Don's son gave him the gnome when he grew up and moved out of the house to watch over dad. George is well traveled and a conversation starter for Don who is quite the extrovert anyway.

20140621-_1060785-L.jpg

The drive to my in-laws place was highlighted by a stop at Bubba’s BBQ for a mean rack of ribs. Christy’s sister and brother-in-law were great hosts with dinner and a strawberry shortcake birthday cake. Don’s birthday is the 21st of June, our scheduled departure date.

The in laws, Christy's Dad, sister, brother in law and great uncle.

We are off in the morning with bright shiny bikes and attitude. As you can see my partner packs a little on the large side, and he has a lot of stuff.

I dumped my bike in front of a restaurant on the ride for the border crossing a Sumas. no pictures, it never happened. The Sumas border crossing was painless and fast for both of us.

20140622-P1000898-L.jpg

Saw our first moose heading up Hwy I.

20140622-P1000904-L.jpg

Made my first fuel miscalculation on Hwy 5 and had to head up to Merritt for gas instead of cutting the corner by dirt and hitting 97C. We still caught Bates Rd. via 5C though and got a little dust on the bikes. I don't think this his how these bones fell.

20140622-_1060795-L.jpg

I had read Westside Rd was voted a one of the worst roads in BC. That makes it a must-do for the Slo-Mo Tour. The twists were as great as the views. Our best sheep sighting came on this road.

20140622-_1060800-L.jpg

These guys were just above the road. Notice the one just over Don's head in this shot.

20140622-_1060803-L.jpg

Camping at Fintry Provincial Park introduced us to the excellent Provincial Park system Canada has. We quickly became fans of the groomed sites, wood availability and water pumps. The packed rock was a little harder to love when pounding in tent stakes.

Dreamcycle was recommended by another forum member here and was almost directly on our intended route. The food was decent but the museum was well worth the stop. The owner took time to come by once in awhile to explain aspects of a bike only the original owners would know and pass down. He also confirmed our intended route as the primo choice if going north on dual sports.

20140623-_1060825-L.jpg

The dirt road along Adams Lake was occupied by us and logging trucks, lots and lots of logging trucks. Luckily they were coming at us so the dust wasn't as bad as it could have been.

20140623-P1000934-L.jpg

Found Vavenby Falls with Google Earth.

20140623-_1060831-L.jpg

Mud Lake was our first taste of outback camping. One site there with two tired old picnic tables and a fire ring. There was an outhouse in the woods but nature owned most of it now. Mosquitoes were bad but not as bad as we had expected. Waited a little too long to get the bug juice on though and paid the price. Across this quiet lake was a glacier and waterfall running creating one of the most peaceful sounds to fall asleep to.

Brad... Your equipment lists were pretty comprehensive. Was there anything you missed and were there things you took that you would leave behind the next time.... Great Pics. If you have any left over bear repellent, it might be useful the next time you see Beemerdon!

I bought a pair of travel pants and shirt in Wasilla so I had something to wear while doing laundry and something that didn't look like camp gear when going to dinner. Didn't use the fleece camp gloves but would have had it been colder. My all aluminum tent/tarp stakes should have a least a couple steel spikes/nails for very rocky terrain. The steel spikes also work to make a hole for the lighter aluminum ones. Found some lotion type bug juice in a grocery store along the way that worked great, smelled good and kept my skin silky smooth.

Could have left the two dehydrated meals behind. Don would have chewed off his own arm before eating those things.

A Great Ride Report Brad and Fantastic Photographs, Thank You Very Much!

"Don would have chewed off his own arm before eating those things." Don't be too sure Uberkul, in my six years in the US Army I loved 'C' rations and I was the only one in my unit that would eat "shit on a shingle" in the Mess Hall (chipped beef on toast with white gravy!). jes' sayin' and nuff said, Bon Appetit eh!

I think I'm up to day 4 of the ride so lots more coming.

Good to know you are not a finicky eater Don but Don Wilke my ride partner for this trip is a little more discerning than you and I. Chili-Mac forever!

Bravo! Great Adventure! Please put the job on hold another week or so to satisfy us wannabe ADV types with more pics of manly men out in the elements!

OM's getting bored with the normal/abnormal human/sheep interaction typically found on the sites he visits... EDIT- AWESOME Ride...do the report when you feel like it.

In my search for interesting places to visit I scoured Google Earth and found a little road heading up to the top of Canoe Mtn. Should have thrown in the towel when the road started out with golfball sized and shaped rocks. Those worked their way up to Softball and larger. I went down once and Don three times before we called it quits.

We ended up in Dawson Creek and the start of the Alaska Highway by accident. I had planned to cut this corner, like most corners, but missed a turn. A fortunate mistake but still can’t say we rode the whole highway since we cut some corners.

Just some Alaska Hwy stuff, we have beaver.

Breakfast of champions and adventure riders alike.

I call this receding and reclining. Warm sand and sun makes me feel like an old dog, just want to soak it all in.

Don enjoying the weight bias of baggage.

Mud Lake mosquito bites look worse than they feel. Other than one little guy on my pinky toe that just about had me ready to hack it off.

I'm the green tent, Don the Yellow. There is a penis joke in there somewhere.

Suzuki DR650 doing it's best impression of a gear closet.

Starting to get used to the seldom dark. I did bring a headlight but never used it.

Don grabbed for some front brake and found none. He had lost a bolt and I grabbed an oh-so-crappy picture.

20140626-P1000990-L.jpg

This just happened to occur in the middle of nowhere... but it was pretty. Don had a replacement bolt and we were off again.

20140626-_1060892-L.jpg

A little side road exploring gained me a hole in my otherwise waterproof side bag. Nature decided to set up a punji stake booby trap that skewered the bag and knock me a little sideways but not down. Luckily it broke off before damaging the contents or drag along side and tear it more..

20140626-P1000991-L.jpg

We found a momma bear and cub along the side of the road. The young bear crossed behind Don but Momma only watched from the side warily. I thought this might turn into a Wild Kingdom event with Don as the gazelle. Bear sighting were special at first but evolved into a casual point of the finger without slowing down.

Sometimes you just have to eat a cookie that's almost as big as your head.

20140626-P1010011-L.jpg

The trick is getting the coffee/whiskey in while keeping the bugs out.

A pretty little canyon.

20140627-P1010030-L.jpg

It gave Don an opportunity for a Cpt. Morgan. Dump it on this ride and you own it with a Cpt. Morgan pose. Takes the sting out.

20140627-P1010032-L.jpg

This nice lady told us about some road work hundreds of miles away on the Alaska border that was causing problems for travelers. We dismissed it like we did most warnings about "that road". "That road" usually ended up being one of the funnest and not the certain death as described. Turns out she was well informed in this case.

20140627-P1010035-L.jpg

Giggling in our helmets. This doesn't suck.

Liard Hot Springs was a special place with very nice camping and good hot water to soak in. If you could place a rock on the edge of the source pool you were a stud, a red semi boiled stud.

20140627-P1010062-L.jpg

In the morning we had the place to ourselves.

20140628-P1010064-L.jpg

As enthusiastic as Don looks in this shot we still managed to relax with a little Makers Mark in camp, the bourbon endorsed by the Alaska Slo-Mo Photo Tour.

This sucks!

Sorry, but you have posted more images than you are allowed to
Having to trim down the report photo count a little make it work. I'll post up the direct link to the full gallery on the last segment to see what you have been missing. No, I don't really want to trim the segments down to make it work.

Awesome stuff. Keep it coming.

Just two questions so far.

Don had a caliper bolt with him?

How many spare parts did he bring?

That one is either from experience or luck. Just curious.

The Honda has one long and one short caliper bolt. Luckily he lost the short one. We both carry nuts and bolts but would have been sol had the big one come out.

Awesome. An adventure I love reading about.

I'm allergic to mosquitos...so the pictures are enough for me.

BTW, this RR is EPIC.
