I am glad someone bumped this thread as I have never seen it before. I've been using Yamalube since I got my bike. I change it every 3000 miles and the filter every other oil change. I've always felt that changing the oil frequently is far better than using top quality oil and changing it at recommended intervals. I think this is as much peace of mind as it is good practice for the bike. Having said that, I've reached a point in my life where I don't have the time to do my own homework and develop an informed opinion on such matters and for the first time, my financial position allows me to spend the extra $$$ on super gasoline and doubly frequent oil changes even when not necessary. On the other hand, I value the opinion of the seasoned users on this forum to make decisions on such matters for me so whatever the consensus ends up being, I like hearing about it.

Maj, if you're wasting your money on premium gas in your FJR, stop. Seriously. Also, move your changes to 4k and change that filter with every one. The money you save on gasoline and oil will more than make up for the extra filters.

+1, Gunny; as much as I hate to agree with anything stated by HotRodZilla, using premium gas in your FJR is truly wasting your money. My 2003 Miss Lucy Liu FJR has ran Mexican PEMEX gasolina as far South as Chiapas Estado and she runs great. I also have ran regular fuel in her in Third World Countries such as Canada and Lucy still runs just fine!

Even if it's only for the purposes of getting ethanol free gas? This is the only reason I fill up at Shell and use premium. I thought it was preferable to avoid ethanol.

I'm sticking to Rotella syn + I add Rislone for the little bit extra over the 1 gallon needed. I try and stay with 3K changes, but if I'm trippin' it then it gets done when it gets done - as will be the case in my upcoming 3 wk plus run to points north and west!

Sometimes if you ask the mayor of a small(ish) PNW town real nice, he'll let you do some service work at his house.........

Where'd you hear this myth? Premium fuel at Shell has the same amount of ethanol as other grades. Or, is there a specific sticker saying that the grade in question is ethanol free? If so, it's the first gas station I've ever heard do this. The few fuel stations that sell fuel without ethanol anymore typically do it across the grades.
