What did you do to your FJR today?

Changed oil and changed GPS mounts. I had forgotten my Zumo at home on my last trip to FODS & Spearfish. When I got to Spearfish I took the Montana mount off the WR450 and swapped out the Zumo mount for the Montana mount on the FJR. Everything is now back to the normal configuration.

I do like the screen on the Montana better than the Zumo 665 but the Montana lacks bluetooth and XM radio. That's OK on the dirt bike but I need bluetooth for directions and music when I'm on the FJR.

I also had a close look at the rear tire and need to make a decision soon on whether to replace it before or after EOM. While I was at my dealer I picked up one of the new jump start power packs. Chris had one of these in Mexico and it came in handy with the WR450 and with my FJR being an AE I can't bump start the bike. I thought this would be a good addition to the tool kit.

Bummer. Even though some say it's not needed, I installed the Stiffy kit, just in case.

I saw the Stiffy in your pic, didn't know you use the SR357 too. I guess we can minimize the possibility of it happening but it's still gonna. Bummer, hope it's not too expensive.

It's easy enough to remove the sub frame and get it welded.

A specialist alloy welding shop can do it.

Yamaha needs to take another look at improving the casting. It wouldn't be to hard to change the wall thickness in the mold.

Yep, I'm going to do that, but I'll get a new one on order now and get this one welded after it arrives and I swap it out. I don't like down time.

Gas is ~ 6 lbs per gallon. How big is the aux fuel cell, how much does the empty tank weigh, and how much more stuff do you carry back there?

I really don't think the aux tank was the problem, as it sits where the passenger seat was, forward of the crack. After some thought, I think in my haste (big surprise there) to get ready for my Madonna Of The Trail ride, I missed a 1/4 inch spacer under the very aft bolt of the Givi rack, putting a lot of upward torsion on the tail of the subframe. That combined with a load in the top box and some bumpy roads was all it could take. If you look at the crack closely, you can see that tail piece of the subframe is actually pulled up just a bit from the rest at the crack. Totally my fault. I found th spacer laying I the rear part of the cowling.

Well, this weekend while others were riding their asses off, I was getting my 04 ready for delivery to its new owner...my son David.

I got fresh tires front T30 and rear PR2 on. Changed oils and filter. Griff came over Friday and put in new spark plugs and other misc. stuff while I was dancing with the tires and nomar. I also changed the brake and clutch fluid.

I cleaned the bike up somewhat, and will likely give it a coat of wax before heading north Wednesday.

I don't ride monster miles, but this bike has been to fun places:

CFR09 and everywhere between Nakusp and Wheaton in 11 days.

A Campout in 2010 about 80 miles from where I live now...bad stator after that meet made for frenetic efforts to get home...

Kali in 2011...a dream trip that was a blast.

Lots of EOMs and Rambles and Hootervilles each year as well. 22k on the clock when I got it, 92k as I deliver it. Hopefully David will have some fun with it as well.

I hope I can do that someday. Currently my two oldest boys don't seem to have an interest in MC's.

Got out this weekend and picked up 5 more sites for the Grand Tour of Georgia ride. About 540 miles. It rained for the first hour and I lost my GPS as it leaped off the bike and commited suicide. I had hoped to recover it but the 3 or 4 cars following assisted in its death. It was an older unit but will be missed.
