We'll get to Point Clark.... And then it's on Tom's head.

Just checking in on this thread. We will be staying in Salamanca Wednesday night and heading to the falls in the morning. Should be a little less than 2 hours for us to reach the crossing. We want to have a look at the falls and would then love to hook up and ride to Huntsville with others.
Staying at the Seneca Allegany Casino are ya?
Yep.

Tuesday or Wednesday Bob.. Just depends on how long Tom and Pam can put up with me wife....
Well that nails it down for me Barry!!! Wednesday is too soon. I am trying not to put Janet through another iron butt type ride this year.

Oh and yer wife! Right! Good one!

This will be the only time that Pam takes Tom somewhere so they won't be home when Barry shows up.

By the way Bob, you do understand that if you cross at the Falls or Buffalo you would be going in completely the wrong direction to meet Bust at Tom's right??

I know that. I was just messing with Bust's random post not apparantly directed at anyone in particular. Hoping to hook up with someone that knows the way!

Well that leaves Bust out.

Wine Guy lives in Fonthill that is only a few kilometers from the Falls. He might be your best bet on getting a local to lead the way. If he takes you into St. Johns and turns at the bottom of the hill at the old school house beware. I took Ray and Mike down that path that is the back way into the old Effingham Park last fall and I think Ray is still pissed at me.

Lucie and I will be heading out from south of Montreal on the Thursday. Likely wind up going through Ottawa and then getting off the T-Can around Renfrew/Arnprior and going through the south side of Algonquin Park to get to Huntsville.

Any from NE or Maritimes planning on coming through that part of the world?

Griff

I just checked Bills GPX route from the falls and that looks good. I will load it up in the Garmin so we will have it ready should we want to use it. Looks like there will be several folks hitting that area around the same time. Late breakfast meeting place somewhere near the falls would work for us.

I LOVE riding that section by St. Johns!

I have no problem in leading us through my neck of the woods around Niagara. For sure the ride up the Niagara Parkway is a must. I would suggest crossing at the Peace Bridge at Buffalo/Fort Erie as it gives you the best ride all the way up the Parkway to Niagara-on-the-Lake. If you cross at Niagara Falls, you will only be riding the upper half of the Parkway. Maybe meeting in Fort Erie for breakfast would be an idea for those coming up that way. Just a thought.

Since the wife has never been to Niagra Falls my plan is to get to the Rainbow Bridge via the Robert Moses, cross over and then to Queen Victoria park for photo ops. Totally agree with Bill that the best views are from there. If we were staying overnight I would take her up Skylon Tower for dinner and the light show.

This is how it's looking for us:

Tuesday 6/19: leave Columbus after-workish and head to NE Ohio and spend the night with the in-laws.

Wednesday 6/20: enjoy a long, boring ride up to Brockville, ON, and meet up with FredW & Co. I figure we'll cross the border at Thousand Islands or whatever it's called.

Thursday 6/11: follow someone to CFR HQ.

For the return trip:

Leave CFR HQ on Sunday 6/24, I guess.

Wander aboot for a few days, probably head northwest and cross back into the States at St. Saint Marie. Probable head over towards Traverse City.

Get home on Tuesday. Ish.

Lots of totally nude strip clubs in Ft. Erie... oh wait, we're doing breakfast! ;)

Ah yes. The famed Canadian ballet.

Bill's West Route #1 from Rainbow Br to Huntsville

I converted Bill's "West Route #1".gpx file to a .trp file (Co-Pilot GPS format). if anybody needs that PM me, I can also give you directs to install the file as well, you will need Astro File Mgr (or appropriate copy/paste-file/folder app.) Not hard at all.

So... it seems this route will be 346mi and 9hr-10min seat time plus of course sum stops.

... If he takes you into St. Johns and turns at the bottom of the hill at the old school house beware. I took Ray and Mike down that path that is the back way into the old Effingham Park last fall and I think Ray is still pissed at me.

Is it worse than that turn off of river road on 72 in WV 2 years ago after the ramble?
When the road / goat path went through a small ravine that was gravel, the rain had eroded some fairly deep ruts that made things pretty dicey. I just got up on the pegs and trials bike it but Ray & Mike don't have my dirt bike experience and the pucker factor was quite high. The turn off in WV would have looked like the interstate compared to where we went.

I'm sure Wine Guy knows the spot since it is less than 10 minutes from his house.

Unfortunately, the wife and i will not be able to make it out to CFR this year. Was hoping to get a chance to meet everyone. Maybe next year.

However, I thought I would add a little route detour for those heading up from Niagara on Bill's route. This will cut off the short length of the Hwy 403 slab through Hamilton and then joins back with Bill's route on Hwy 6 north of Waterdown (Burlington). It will add about an extra 30 min to your ride, but it is a nice little detour through the Dundas Valley:

Mud St W/Regional Rd 411
1. Head west on Mud St W/Regional Rd 411 toward Paramount Dr Continue to follow Mud St W 1.4 km 2. Take the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway ramp to ON-403 750 m 3. Merge onto Lincoln M. Alexander Pkwy W 11.5 km 4. Take the exit on the left toward Rousseaux Street 1.0 km 5. Merge onto Mohawk Rd 1.2 km 6. Continue onto Rousseaux St 400 m 7. Turn left onto Wilson St E 600 m 8. Turn right onto Sulphur Springs Rd 1.0 km 9. Turn right to stay on Sulphur Springs Rd 1.5 km 10. Continue onto Mineral Springs Rd 3.9 km 11. Continue straight onto Slote Rd 1.1 km 12. Turn right onto Governors Rd/County Road 99 3.3 km 13. Turn left onto Weirs Ln 2.2 km 14. Turn right onto Regional Road 8 E 350 m 15. Take the 1st left onto Crooks Hollow Rd 1.9 km 16. Continue onto Old Brock Rd 210 m 17. Continue onto Harvest Rd 3.4 km 18. Continue onto Sydenham Rd/Regional Rd 505 350 m 19. Continue onto Rock Chapel Rd 2.3 km 20. Turn right onto ON-5 E 1.8 km 21. Turn left onto ON-6 N (signs for Guelph) 1.3 km
