2012 FJR1300 information released

Wonderful color. I think they realized what an iconic color it was.

But would a deep, candy red have been that hard? Maybe they are waiting for the 10th anniversary of the U.S. introduction?

I still feel I have the right bike. Can't say that I would need a whole lot more.More adjustment to the handle bars and factory cruise might be nice. I like the idea of a factory provision for aux lighting too.

No sneak preview of the new 2006, er 2012 King of Bikes (FJR). They have 2011 Silver Bullet's only. :(

I think every year of the Gen II there have been small tweaks. For example, my 2008 has a very smooth throttle system, no need for the sort of throttle modification common on earlier models.

I also am sure that there minor differences in the 2008 cowl fasteners compared to earlier models.

And we know that 2010 and beyond don't need the grounding recall.

It will be interesting to see what small changes might exist in the 2012s. Somebody rush out and buy one!

I do like the blue much better than centurion silver.
 
I would agree......Yamaha has a great Blue

Sold my 2005 two weeks ago and now have a deposit on 2012.

Look forward to delivery in the spring.

 
Had mine ordered two weeks after Yamaha had it listed on their website. Since they don’t need to mess with a chassis that everyone else is measured against, I am a little surprised they haven't done anything to add some bells and whistles like a built in Bluetooth music player/intercom system; it does have touring in its name after all. A system like that can be small enough so it could be used on all their touring product lines. But don’t get me wrong I am very excited for spring to arrive; I’ve been waiting for three years for this baby. The purr of that engine will be sweet sweet music!!

 

I have a picture of my 2012 on my computer desktop at work and find myself searing at it a few times a day. :)

 
When I was contemplating replacing my 05 fjr I must admit that I was a little nervous about what the future might hold regarding the 12 fjr. Went ahead and pulled the trigger anyway back in august on a new Kawasaki C-14. Now that I see this I am a little relieved that yamaha didnt set me on my ass by offering up some trick stuff like inverted forks,added useable electronics,6speed, slipper clutch etc etc.

My 14 doesnt have enough miles on it yet for me to brag or dog it. But at least as I said Yamaha didnt give me a swift kick in my ass by jumping too soon.

I guess if given the option of a 11/12 c-14 or the same old same FJR I would go with the 14 just to enjoy the difference and updated items on the bike.

I'm sorry to tell you that I've sold my beloved Auntie Bluie for a german girl. A sixy red coloured gurl with lots of options !

First of all, I will thank everybody on this superb forum for information and help since I bought the FJR new in 2006.

Especially many thanx to Jeff, for a lot of handy stuff, like setting up my suspension in a superb way. No more scraping pegs after the hard setting.....

As you all know, it is a little bit of sorriness to let a faithful bike like Auntie Bluie go.... This bike has never let me down, so I will still be in touch with FJR riders wherever I go, even if I'm sitting on a german girl.

Just a few impression regarding the 16GT; she got a "clunky" noise when driving i 2nd gear with throttle on/off (drivetrain slack), also she is somewhat peculiar when going down the road at 80 km/h and I do a strong countersteering from left to right to left. It has kind of hasitation when going over from side to side.

Might be the traction control?!!!

Okay, I'll find out.

Must say as a aftertought; that has mama Yam come out with a FJR1400 pluss all the other stuff that a modern touring bike requires, I would have bought another FJR.

Say norflyer, does your neue Deutsche Fraulein look a little like mein Gisele! Sorry to hear that you were not able to keep your FJR and get a new red BMW K1600GT.

As much as I love mein Schatzie Gisele, I could never bear to give up Miss Lucy Liu, my 2003 FJR. But, just because you no longer own an FJR is no reason to no longer post up to the FJR Forum; You Are Always Welcome Here! And in regards to the GT "clunk", just turn up the Sirius Radio a little louder; I have mine pinned to the Channel 19 Elvis station!

Ya, I've got the sister in red, just like yours.

I was not able to keep the 06 FJR due to the fact that my old Honda 1976 1000GL (Goldwing)(Madame Rouge) takes up the extra space.

So now I have two red ladies in the garage. And I'll be around this forum; I like to see what this superb forum says about the Beemer sisters ;)

norflyer, if you don't have your 2012 riding plans laid out yet, come join us in the Alps from August 8-15. I will have our Germany, Austria and Italian hotels and the days we are staying in them posted up here in January. Ride your K1600GT down from Norway and meet us!

I've heard three possible scenarios regarding Hot RodZilla: 1) Plane crash. 2) Train wreck. 3) Nuclear plant explosion. My guess is that he was right at ground zero at Chernobyl in Russia!

Btw, to avoid hiways I just take the train from Hamburg to Munchen along with some Single Malt Whisky, and suddenly I'm in Munchen!

I was stationed at Reiss Kaserne in Augsburg, Bavaria 65 kilometers from Munchen for two years! A dozen of us GI's would ride the train to Der Hofbrauhaus and get raging drunk. We would always tip the Train Conductor 10 Deutsche Marks to make sure to wake us up and get us off the train in Augsburg, so we wouldn't wind up Absence With Out Leave and get sentenced to the Stockade!

The bike is beautiful but you haven't become any better looking since I last laid eyes on you! Didn't I lead you and maybe Jim Baker on a ride south of Chandler on your early GS? I seem to recall doing so, little sand and some fun stuff. RIP Jim, he was a trip! PS, glad you still have the Feejer, should have ridden something to Deming last weekend, lots of good ol' friends there but few from Phoenix.

Hi Russ, Glad to hear from you also! Yes, my 1996 BMW R1100GS was only a week old when we rode the Old Spanish Gila Trail. I usually do ride over to Deming, New Mexico for the Veterans Rendezvous; Son Seth and I just stayed here in Chandler instead.

What happened to our Friend Jim Baker? I did not even know that he had passed away! Jim was a great guy and an outstanding Motorcyclist! Brother Russ, plan on going to NAFO/CFR 2012 in Castlegar, British Columbia in June. Ride to Canada with Seth and I.

Interesting comments regarding the '12 model. I've had two FJR's and I will not buy another until Yamaha gets its act together and makes the following improvements. Optional bar risers, electronic cruise control, taller windscreen, 6sp trans, grip warmers, tire pressure monitors, mirrors that give a clear rear view, and external power supply outlet. There is no excuse for not having most of these features. You can get some of them on the Concourse and the price is competitive with the current FJR. Why do we have to buy all this after market shit? What is the problem getting a 6sp trans on the new FJR? They have it on other models. With 145hp a 6 Sp overdrive would provide much better MPG. I have a Lexus es350 with 268hp weighing 3600lbs. At 70mph it is turning 2000rpm and plenty of power on varied terrain. If you check the HP to WT ratio, the FJR could easily handle normal riding with a 6 gear overdrive. What do you accomplished riders say?
