Although it will not happen and even if it did, not the way I'd like to see it done, but...

I'd love a 6th gear, call it an overdrive if you will, for highway cruising near the speed limit, but not a 6 speed transmission to the same Final Gear Ratio. (Does that make sense?)

There are lots of options that could be added to FJR by Yamaha, but at what cost? I'm pretty damn sure a Cruise Control would cost more from Yamaha than from the aftermarket sources for those willing to bolt it on themselves.) I love tinkering with my bike and farkling it the way I want it!

Now if only they could find some decent colour paint again! Only one year with a decent colour in North America? What's up with that?

Don't fret too much, Jeffrey.

They are on shed-yule to bring that most unique and desirable of colours (BTW = my spell check says that ain't no wurd, yo!) back next year.

For those dim wits not acute and sooth enough to realize of what we speak, of course we are talking aboot the 2005 Bass Bote Blue. Alternately referred to as Galaxy Blue, probably since it is so "far out man", but there has never been a faster colour evah. Wurd.

Six speed or five speed. Cruise control or no cruise control. Yamaha should do this, Yamaha should do that. Blah blah blah blah. All of you are neglecting/turning a blind eye to the most obvious topic of all, the 2005 Galaxy Blue has been replaced. At the end of the day the 2012 Cobalt Blue FJR is the best looking, fastest chick magnet of all FJR model years, now and for many years to come!!

well yes 200 hp + would be nice color ops for sure :yahoo: . I have a 07 and can't see any reason to change :assassin: maybe if it could hall in the 500 lbs range that would help me :lol: . I like to take as much along as i can :) and 6 speed heated seat Good Idea :yahoo: . im goig to look in to that it can't be that hard to take a seat a part and install a heater ........ :D

 
It's disappointing that the Yamaha fleet continues to age with very little changes. I'm torn between the FJR and the FZ1 and both haven't changed much since Gen II in 2006. 6 years is a long time for bold new colors every year, so I'm looking at the competition from Kawasaki. The Councours14 had a major revision after only 2 years.. and I don't understand why Kawi, Yami, and Honda offer no cruise on their sport touring bikes. To get cruise, it's either BMW RT/GT/GTL or a Goldwing.

hmmm... power outlets, cruise control, FM radio and CD player (w/bluetooth of course), heated seat, air conditioner, windshield wipers (with washer sprayer for those pesky bugs), a cup holder or two, two wheel drive for the snow/mud?
I still love my 06 which is apparently the same as the 12 for all intents and purposes but there is room for improvement. While spinning it as

everyone else is playing catch-up is nice, there are things I'd like to see if they Yamaha wants my business when it's time for my next bike.

Consider the use/market this bike fits into and build in some farkles to that market.

Realistically doable items...

- Factory heated grips (that might be the case now)

- Cruise

- More flexibility with adjustable windshield, or perhaps just a better angle.

- On the fly EFI changes, sport/economy mode, etc.

- Better factory suspension from the get go.

- More/Better usable power outlets

- Better Stator (more excess power).

- Jebus, make the headlight bulbs easier to change.

- Keyless (and larger) saddlebags.

- Com System? Even if it's a factory add-on?

- Few more CC's just for the hell of it.

- Greater handlebar control flexibility (more range of motion, not just 5mm forward or back).

- Consider factory sliders/bumpers. (ST1300/GW tip over guards)

- If all of that adds 100lbs, you better add a reverse ;)

- Factory Aux lighting built into the controls/harness for the customer to add their own, plug and play.

All just a dream I'm sure.
Maybe Mr. Yammi could call one rigged out like this a FJR1300LD (long distance), and of course still make a standard model too. Maybe yamaha should read this forum, can someone translate into Japanese? ;)

 
If we are lucky Yamaha may continue to make these bikes for a few more years.

It's more likely that they will just drop this albatross altogether. You have to look at this from a total market perpective, not just your own.

Who wants a motorcycle that weighs well over 600 lbs, gets the fuel mileage of a small car and goes through an expensive set of tires every 5k miles?

Yeah, I know that we all love them, but there just aren't enough of us to make it worthwhile for them.

It's more likely that they will just drop this albatross altogether. You have to look at this from a total market perpective, not just your own.

Oh yeah, and the life saving S10s are flying off the floors...Then again, maybe not.

Didn't they have to do a major redesign after only 2 years to fix a bunch of problems?
Didn't Yamaha do a major redesign after only 3 years in the US? And even then, didn't Yamaha fail to fix a number of things. Plus add a bunch of new problems at the same time.

...Maybe yamaha should read this forum, can someone translate into Japanese?

That still shocks the shit out of me, since I had a $1K deposit down on a Super Tenere at D & H Motorsports. I thought that the S10 would sell like hotcakes, but that is sure not the case here in the American Southwest.

Every Yamaha Moto dealer in our four state region has these S10's stacked up like cordwood and nobody is interested in buying them, even at discounted prices. I really did not see that one coming and it is obvious that the Yamaha Corporation did not either!

Mi Amigo Fred, I hope that you are wrong, but I have a sickening feeling that you are absolutely correct. I am hopeful Yamaha will continue our FJR's as a niche bike to expand upon, just like the Honda Gold Wing.

I've been thinking the same thing for the last year, especially since there are so many used feejers available. I was a little surprised that there was a 2012 model, but glad to see it.
