I was just talking to my Mom on the phone... she hadn't heard about the CT shooting so I told her about it... she said she wished that the overwhelming number of people who do good in the world got as much attention and press as the one person who didn't do something horrible... it's so easy to have something like this make you think the world or our country is a horrible place but if you stop for just a moment and think about all the good that you have experienced in your life and the people out in the world fighting the good fight in so many ways, maybe, just maybe, it will help swing that pendulum back in your hearts a little bit...

I can't do anything to make that situation in CT better in any way other than to pray and send out the most love and energy that I can to those that have been affected... and I will do that in spades.

A terrible tragedy, timed so cruelly (immediately before Christmas vacation). Prayers for the families and everyone affected.

What is it that is so wrong in some people that they act so ruthlessly to ruin the lives of others? Imagine how much better the world would be if we all routinely considered the Golden Rule before we acted, and conscientiously tried to implement its directive. If I could have any wish come true for Christmas, it would be that. May we all make an extra effort to do so ourselves.

The grief I feel as a bystander for those children leaves me numb, speechless and unable to comprehend the evil and cold acts of a person able to cut down anybody, let alone innocent little ones...

Gunny. I just don't get it. Those kids....

Man just at a total loss here. Prayers to all those that have lost loved ones and to those that endured such a horrific crime.

Being a dad and grandpa, makes me want to throw up, I can't even start to think of this heinous act without being shaken to my very core of existence. My thoughts and prayers are now with the ones which been confronted with this nightmare.

This is so sad..... ;(

I am in a state of shock.

The world has many nutjobs on the edge of reason.

I don't think this is the last such incident nor will we find a solution in out lifetimes.

Condolences to all those affected by this senselss tragedy.

As most of you know, I am a middle school teacher intensive reading teacher. News like this really hits me. I look into those innocent faces and I'm reminded of the importance of what I do for a living. Sometimes my kids moan and groan about the "lock down" drills that we do every couple months. These drills are designed to help the kids practice what we're supposed to do in the event that something awful, something like THIS happens. Like most kids, my students have a hard time being serious about these drills, and most of them live in that dream world of youth. It's hard for them to imagine the unimaginable.

Which is exactly as it should be. No child should have to concern themselves with this sort of thing. My soul, what is happening to this world? It makes you thnk, is it ever going to end? I've often wondered what I'd do if came down to having to stand between my students and somebody with a gun. Hopefully, if that day ever comes, I'll have the courage to do what's right. Of course we would all hope that it never comes down to that. But until then, I'll just have to do my best to help my kids to take these drills seriously. Days like today remind us all that we've got to try to be prepared.

For now, may the Lord bless and encourage the affected families.

Like everyone else... such a senseless tragedy, seemingly impossible to fathom why anyone would do such a thing.

Guess in way of understanding we just have to realize there are some majorly Forked people among us, they need mental help.

On a side note, I know that area well. My parents lived there for about the last 35 years of their lives. It's a quaint, rustic, old New England area. Guess if that says anything, it's that messed up people come from all walks of life.

It's really hard to get yer head around 20 innocent children dying like that...

Such a terrible tragedy. The wife and I will hold a special prayer service this evenine for the survivors and their families. I just can't believe. How can someone be so sick in the head to even imagine anything so horrible? God bless the families.

As we feel so totally distraught over this (and other similar acts lately) I think Barry's question is in fact very important, WHY??? Is there some underlying element in the world today that we can only come together only when there is a case of a horrific event such as this ?? I belive that we are becoming so disconnected from any and all personal contact (ie texting, email, twitter, facebook ect, ect, ect. that the ONLY thing that connects people on a truely raw emotional level lately is some insane act of violence that, because of the media barrage that follows forces people to (god forbid) talk to eachother face to face and to directly express their feelings about such an event. Yes Twitter and face book are melting with posts as well but correct me if I am wrong, you have to agee that there is more direct conversation when something like this happens. This again leads us all to the question "WHY" What do YOU think these people are thinking when/ before they decide to commit such acts? most (if not all have very serious issues that drive them) but why must these people have to take the innocent lives of others (along with themselves) seemingly to outdo the last mass killing event that was on the news?? My wife (who works in a school for 23 yrs) (yes we worry about her school having an event like this as well) and I pray for all the children and their families and that some day these events will will no longer be a part of our and our children's lives.
