SPECIAL BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR OF MOUNT RUSHMORE

We hope to again obtain special permission for 12 of us to be escorted to the top of Mount Rushmore, on top of the heads, the morning of Saturday, Sept. 13. Of the 4 million people that visit Mount Rushmore each year, only a small number get this opportunity, and usually they are well-connected VIP's and politicians. We will hold a drawing Friday evening, Sept. 12, to determine who will be selected for the tour. You will have to be present to participate in the drawing.

Sorry, but Mount Rushmore canceled all tours like this due to a broken ankle that occurred on one recently.

SPOUSE ACTIVITIES

We will be working on a schedule of activities for spouses. We are open for suggestions, but they could include a short, slow couples/woman's bike ride, and/or automobile-based activities such as winery tours, or shopping, for example at Rapid City or the Christmas store in Hill City.

WHAT ELSE TO DO THERE:

You mean besides getting together with your buddies, kicking tires, telling lies, and enjoying your favorite beverages? Custer is in the center of the Black Hills, which has legendary motorcycle roads. From Custer, an FJR rider can take off in any of four directions on twisty and scenic routes.

North: Mount Rushmore (live cam), Crazy Horse, Deadwood (gambling), Devils Tower, Nemo Road, Spearfish Canyon Rd., Vanocker Rd., Hwy. 385, Sturgis, Rapid City (live cam), scenery, and miles of twisty roads.

East: Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Iron Mtn. Road, Badlands National Park, buffalo, scenery, and twisty roads. Badlands (live cam)

South: Wind Cave National Park, buffalo, Hot Springs, Agate Fossil Beds Nat. Monument, scenery, and twisty roads.

West: Jewel Cave National Monument, cave tours, scenery, and twisty roads. (Hot Springs live cam)

I am going to get my "stuff" together and when I get the reservations made, count me in! might try and get the wife to come along too! That is, if you let a ST 1300 in...

mr.paul, from Minnesota

Boy it would be a real honor to have the NUT at CFO. As one of those who was up at the top also, I can say it was worth the trip even it that's all you did. You wouldn't be disappointed at all.

An 'honor'? Yeah, right! I can hear the rotten tomatoes being stashed as I type! Actually, I'll have to see how things progress, but this does hold interest for me...

Hey Jackson, just one thought. With this much advance notice would it be possible to group the rooms a little closer together? It would save walking the length of the motel for drinks!!! And we wouldn't have a bunch of cars parked between the bikes. Stan

We asked that question when we blocked the rooms for 2008, and they said it's not possible. But if we had enough people to fill ALL of the rooms......

But where would we ride? I don't know about you but I'm kinda bored with these roads.

It's hard to say for sure at this point but I'm going to try to make this trip. The Black Hills are my old stomping grounds being born and raised just about 140 miles north. I try to take every chance I can to get home to ride the Hills. It will also be my only chance of the year to see the folks...

Keep me posted on travel plans, it would be nice to take the caravan

I was very sad that I couldn't do it this year. Maybe 2008 will be my first CFO appearance.
Now were talking 5 or 6 guys from kansas or mo. would be great on the way up. That would keep MKO and I from gettin tired of each other. (just kiddin mike) However if time allows this year I would like to meet up with the nioraroba( or however the hell you spell it) group for a steak dinner and the ride in. Just throwin it out there. Stan

I'll be going through Niobrara, if not stopping. It's on the way.

If Corwin, Valetz and 4kles(?) all want to meet up again we'd have a lot of people there. There aren't too many hotel rooms in Niobrara, but the nearby state park has cabins and tent sites. I camped out at the park for $15.

FWIW, the room I had at the saloon had 3 beds and enough floor space for several more occupants at a total cost of $44 or so. Probably a good thing for me that it was stumbling distance. If we planned it properly we might be able to bunk everyone at the saloon. Rick or Brian should have some idea what the capacities are of the other rooms.

I'm up for it again unless I go early and play around the Bighorns in WY.

Doug

Just for grins I talked to my contact at Pirelli. They were very generous to the CFO in the past (donating 2 sets of

Strada's). And it sounds like they're willing to do something for the next CFO.

Is there going to be a dedicated web page for the CFO gathering in the fall?
