There is only one exhaust guard - none on the left side. OddCanadian FJR
Discussed several times before. The logic (?) appears to be that the left pipe sticks out further than the right, so more likely to melt your (or your passenger's) boot.

I have a 2018 ES and went to Yamaha dealer for a 39L trunk.

Only the 50L will be offered in matte blue. I think I'll use my 15% Yamaha birthday discount and pop for the black 39L box and rack.

Does anyone know if the bodywork has to be modified to mount the 39L rack?

And...... The LED headlights are amazing!

@Millrat,

Before you go that route check out some of the Givi boxes and their mounting rack. Much more substantial support for any loads in your top box.

You have to slightly enlarge the cutouts on the side panels.

The rear carrier is a nice piece of work.

First 100kms on Big Blue. I figure it's pretty much broken in

Everything that one would expect from a new bike;

- Tighter

- Better suspension

- Very smooth shifting

- Better brakes, once they beaded in

- I like the seat in the high position, my '03 did not have this option

- I only used "T" mode today but I still like the power delivery

- Better wind protection

- At 2 degrees celcius, the heated grips were a welcome addition

I can't wait until I get a few more clicks on it and the roads clean up

Congrats, Scott. Now you can appreciate why those test ride trucks sell so many of these bikes. Once I rode the 3rd Gen I knew I had to have it. Enjoy!
