6 gear slipper tranny "2016" in old 5 gears engines?

The sixth gear is nice on the slab plowing down insects at a very high speed.
Other than that, your 5 speed will suffice and has done so for many a years. Don't create a headache that you don't need, just drink more beer!

I've done a lot of freeway as well, and the five-speed has delivered great mileage and good range at 80 mph. It's not that I wouldn't want a six-speed or enjoy it if I had it. But trying to graft one into an earlier bike seems like a lot of expense for the return.

 
The primary ratio is the same for the 2013 and 2016. One of the secondary ratios is slightly different, 34/36 vs 35/37 and if you factor all the ratios together, you get 22.1418 for the 2016 and 25.5023 for the 2013. That is slightly more than 15% lower RPM for the 2016 in top gear. The final drive gear swap can get an 11.1% reduction in RPM for the earlier models, but the 2016 would still turn about 4% slower. Definitely a tall gear ratio.
^^ True, but have you calculated the RPM reduction when going up to a 190/55 rear tire? Before modifying the final drive I found the 190/55 tire stepped up the speedo reading 2 MPH which made the speedo match the mph on the GPS.
Going to a 190 rear tire gets a calculated 1.75% drop in RPM and maybe a bit more since it pinches the tire cross section a bit, so with all the above, the six speed tranny is still revs slower by around 2%.

My thread got shut down by admin, and I was linked to this discussion. Every one's discussing a whole tranny swap. Could one install just a slipper clutch to replace the existing one in an '07 do you think? I was just trying to accomplish a lighter clutch lever action, if it's practical.

Gee Whiz, lighten up! I did a search on slipper. I see the question, didn't see an answer, but I promise to now cease and desist. Certainly don't intend to degrade the forum. My apologies.

 
Reading this thread is just what I needed after a bad day at work. Smiles galore! Oh thank heavens for the FJR Forum.

 
If you want a lighter pull then find a master cylinder with smaller bore (such as from a smaller Yamaha). This will require a longer but lighter stroke to separate the clutch plates same distance as before.

^^^^ More than likely the latter. All things equal, it takes a given amount of energy to push an FJR down the road. Higher gear "might" lower pumping losses a bit, but it's too early to tell.

Does the higher gear ratio on the 2016 improve the MPG or just take some of the buzz out of the chassis?
My 2016 and a friend's 2014 get essentially the same MPG on the same trips. One may get 49 MPG when the other gets 51 and the next time the numbers reversed. Then again at speeds below 55 we are both riding in 5th gear.

 
Get a rope, attach one end to your wife's 1 ton dually.

The other end to your new shiny fjr.

Put the fjr in neutral.

Put the truck in drive and drive.

You will get excellent miles per gallon and be the toast of the forum.

Just added the Venture gear to my 05 and would say that this gearing is what the factory should have installed.

Excellent upgrade.
