How many of you guys would be interested in buying an MT-01? In case you don't know what it is, its a V-twin powered naked bike that Yamaha sells everywhere else, even Canada, except in the US. From what I've been able to gather, its the same story as the FJR, "we don't think it will sell in the US". You know it would not take hardly any changes to sell it in the US from Canada. It already has the DOT reflectors on it and if the Vstar motor meets EPA regs, this would probably too considering its almost the same motor.

Its really the same concept as a Buell Lightning and those sell fairly well. I think Yamaha is making a mistake not selling it here, and I really don't understand why its being sold in Canada and not here. The market for bikes has to be bigger in the US than in Canada, isn't it?

I would pony up and buy one, even if it costs $13,000. Sure its not the fastest bike out there, but the stump pulling torque would be a blast.

Here are some links to the Canadian web site and European web site.

There is also a "micro site" with some audio clips that sound great.

Nice looking bike. I never heard of it before. 110 ft-lbs probably makes it go very well. I would give it a good look if I were in the market. I wonder why it is so pricey?

I can dig it!
"I knew that you could!"

Nearly 1600 cc's and all that torque? I wonder if Yamaha is just worried about all the lawsuits? Didn't Suzuki stop making their Vtwin crotch rocket cause it would essentially flip over backwards in just about any gear? Oh, then there's the vibration. But OoOoOoohhhHhh, the Suzuki was a BEE A UTIFUL bike. Ahhh the Yammy is ok looking. Probably a blast to ride, though.

ludicris exhaust location.

or is the word idiotic....

If you don't scorch yourself, a passenger certainly would.

Like the hotdog on a gas station grill.

I am sure the outside layer is a heat sheild.

But, it won't stop the blisters.

looks good to me...

I'd like to throw a leg over one. Always thought it would be a hoot to ride with all that torque. Wish Yamaha would also send us the XT-660. :dribble:

I think the MT-01 uses the Warrior engine. I have a 2004 Warrior and a 2005 FJR. No more shakey/vibey V-twins for me! The FJR has spoiled me to the point where the Warrior will be For Sale this Spring.

The MT might have some competition. If Suzuki really does build and release the B-King here, and if Yamaha gets off their behinds and really builds the new V Max, the point about bringing the MT here might be mute? I really liked the bike....until I heard about the B-King and new Max.

i'd like to have the MT-03 instead.

Hi guys.

I test road one of these when they first came out .. One word .. "FUN!!!"

Shakes like an over sized marital aid at idle ( Mrs Flyer's comment when she sat on it while running ), but smooths out once you get going. It's a spunked up Warrior motor that literally will lift the front wheel off in the first 3 gears. Red line is ~5K if I remember, but the fun starts just off of idle.

Would I want on in the stable? .. Tough to say. It's an around town hooligan bike in my mind. Definitely not something to ride over distance. Oh yeah.. There were no heat issues with the rear pipes as the shielding is massive for just that reason.

If a person was looking for a seriously fun 2nd bike and wasn't horned up on 14K rpm redlines ... then is definitely something to look at.

Cool bike, but not for me. I'm too spoiled by having owned so many fully faired bikes that I can't stand hanging on for dear life and all the noise at 70mph. I've down sized to one bike....'07 FJR and if I feel the need for another it will likely be a ZX14, I really like that bike and still have a taste for one after riding it 100+ miles on 4 lane and mtn twisties.

Steve

I would sell my VTX and buy the MT-01 in a heartbeat! That is exactly what I'm looking for in a V-twin. Come on Yamaha...I'd even do a (dare I say) PDP.

I would buy one, I like the looks, and the idea of a torqey V-twin around town is great. I can't figure out why Yamaha hasn't brought this bike to the country that is crazy over V-twins.

i'd like to have the MT-03 instead.

The last time I was in London I got to see a MT-03 up close parked on the street. It's a really well made bike with first rate workmanship and components, no cheap stampings or rough castings. If your used to your FJR though you might find it a bit compact. It is much lower to the ground than most big singles in the US so it should feel pretty stable on the street.

I called Yamaha yesterday and after alot of persuading they connected me to a product specialist. We talked about the fact that Yamaha had no plans to bring the FJR here but after having received lots of letters and emails, they decided to try it on the PDP program. Obviously the results have been great.

He said they haven't had as much response on the MT-01. I said its hard to get response to a product that no one knows about. Everyone knew about the FJR but so many people don't know the MT-01 and 03 exist. I also mentioned that this bike would be very popular with cruiser riders looking for something a little bit different, but want to keep their Vtwin and not go with a buzzy 4 cylinder.
