How long does it take to scan one slide??
The scan usually isn't that big a deal, 30 seconds if you set the res high enough to be of any use, but there's always some reason to do it over and over, dust usually. A little almost invisible piece of ick makes a big damn shadow at 1000 pixels. And then there's usually fixing the color and contrast. It's always wrong after the scan. You get real good with Photoshop after a while. Or GIMP if you're into GNU-license free stuff. (GIMP is really really strong, by the way, a very good program!)

Using that duplicator linked by IanS is probably a better way to go. Duplication is certainly faster than scanning, and you see the result right away on your screen. Potential problems with it include distortion of the image that comes from the lens used with the duplicator. If you've got a lens with any edge distortion in color or geometry, your duped slides will show it.
