MOAB MUST-DOS

If you’ve never been to Moab, go. We mean it — just go. Because few places in the U.S. — or the world, for that matter — offer up such breathtaking natural wonders and scenery, and all the adventure (whitewater rafting, hiking, slick rock excursions, 4-wheeling, rock climbing and more) you’d expect with such surroundings.

It’s a literal Mecca for lovers of the outdoors, and while there are far too many fun and exciting things to do to list here, we’ll throw out a few favorites that can get you started planning your Moab Adventure, and we’ll kick off with Where to Stay, which, of course, would be with us!

Moab Valley RV Resort & Campground or Canyonlands RV Resort & Campground. Our brand new sister resorts are open and ready for visitors, so the only real choice you need to make is what part of Moab you want to stay in. It’s really up to you and where you want to be in the Moab area: Moab Valley is located out of town along U.S. Highway 191, close to Arches and Canyonlands National Park, while Canyonlands is on Moab’s Main Street right near downtown. Both offer RV and tent sites, as well as cottages and larger cabins. Even better news? There’ll be a third Moab RV resort joining the family soon, so stay tuned for updates.

Now, once you’ve settled in as our guest, here are a few things you’ll definitely want to look into …

Whitewater Rafting
Few things get the heart pounding faster than a roller coaster ride through whitewater rapids, and you can have your choice of an oar boat, paddle raft or two-person kayak. Moab Adventure Center will guide you down a 14-mile stretch of Colorado River whitewater surrounded on all sides by gorgeous red rock canyons. For more info, rates and schedules, call (866) 904-1163.

Hot Air Ballooning
If you want to take in all of Moab’s stunning grandeur in one fell swoop, then we’d highly recommend taking to the air … literally. Canyonlands Ballooning is one of the valley’s premier (and oldest) balloon ride operators, offering an experience as unforgettable as it is unique, launching at sunrise to soar over the sandstone rock towers of Arches National Park and the La Sal Mountains. In a word, breathtaking. In two words, do not forget your camera. To learn more pricing and reservations, call (435) 655-1389.

Where to Eat, Where to Drink
After all your vigorous outdoor activity, you’ll no doubt be famished and, naturally, thirsty. To satisfy the appetite with some creatively prepared regional fare, look to the Desert Bistro in downtown Moab. Some of the tasty menu items include venison burgers, tortilla-crusted chicken breast, and pepper-seared sea scallops. For reservations, call (435) 259-0756.

As for slaking the inevitable thirst you’ll have after a long slick rock hike or MTB ride, head directly to the Moab Brewery, the town’s one and only microbrewery and home to a palate-pleasing range of 11 craft beers, ranging from Dead Horse Amber Ale (reportedly the most popular) to Porcupine Pilsner and Golden Sprocket Wit. For directions or reservations, call (435) 259-6333.

Obviously this is just the tip of the red rock formation when it comes for things to do and places to see in the Moab area, so we’d also suggest visiting Discover Moab’s website or calling us at (800) 345-MOAB for additional info.

For more details or to make a reservation at our Moab RV resorts, visit us online at www.moabrvresorts.com, or call (800) 345-6622.

Four more days until this shindig kicks off people. I expect to see so damn many pictures I'm going to gag and slit my wrists for missing two years in a row!

CHANGE OF PLANS: Just got off of the phone with Dave Cooley. DC and Dr. Bob with Mudslide are going to depart from Carefree Chevron at 0700 hours for Moab, UT.

Fred-O and Don Stanley are going to depart from the Highway 87 Chevron across from the Fort McDowell, AZ Casino at 0900 hours, it's on the east side of the Beeline!

Papa Chuy Viejo was Rally Master of FODS/AZB Daze for many years at both Death Valley and Moab, prior to the tenure of BeemerDonS, FODS/AZB Daze had Brad - Uberkul as Rally Master at Washoe Valley and other Western locations: But it is now time to move this event East and have a new Rally Master.

"spklbuk" Jim will be FODS/AZB Daze Rally Master in 2015, the event will be held in the Mountains of West Virginia near Lewisburg and at this time FODS/AZB will be held in mid-June. This gives us Dirt Donks new terrain to explore offroad and opens up the FODS/AZB Daze to the East and Canucks eh!

I first rode this on the Tenere..lack of good judgment. Got 3/4ths of the way thru and chickened out so turned around and rode back through it. Another 1/2 mile I would have been on easy street but rode back though a mile and a half of big pig nasty...DOH!

Camera was off angle (great view of the sky) for most of the section but I left the included clips rank and raw just as captured. I think you will get the idea.

It's a quickie so view on YouTube and crank up the little quality cog control on the lower right of the youtube screen for mo' better resolution.

Did Onion Creek Road with its 22 water crossing in and 22 water crossings out in the morning, then rode Gemini Bridges Loop in the Afternoon; 100 miles offroad.

La Sal Loop and Slickrock tomorrow. Weather is fantastic this year in the mid 80's, we froze last year in the high 50's! I do love Moab, could live here year round!

Howdy all,

Good ride Don? Looking forward to RR.

Brad, thank you for the solid advice. I'm fairly certain the place below covers all the bases and then some. Roll east and come join us!

AJ, you and Patch come and join us too!

Not much luck with getting the Greenbrier State Forest folks to block out any reservations and they want $$ up front. About the only other choices in Lewisburg are motels.

I rode some Tenere backroads today and ended up here: https://adventuresonthegorge.com/ It is in Fayetteville, WV literally within sight of the New River Gorge Bridge. Though I was kind of avoiding the place, it is impressive. Lots of lodging w/ choices, good foods and drink on site and 5-10 minutes from any other necessities. Folks at Sunday check-in were very positive and want our business. This week I am going to contact the gal who handles groups/group rates and can set up a block of lodging if/when we give her the go ahead.

This location will shift the foci of the riding a bit, but only the planned VA riding area will likely be out of dual sport range. The nearby Gauley National Recreation Area and New River National River, both under NPService, provide buttloads of offroad riding. And the timber company lands/Monongahela National Forest where I regularly ride are also within feasible distances. For those doggedly determined to pay a fee to ride on rated trails, Burning Rock ATV area is doable from AdvsontheGorge. Not as famous as Hatfields/McCoy trail system but good. Excellent street riding in all directions. More alternate acticvities than you can carry on a New River train.

This is not the only choice in the Fayetteville/Summersville area, but it is certainly the most versatile. What do y'all think?

Other than Sept (EOM), mid-June is likely the best weather bet.

Appreciate all your help,
Jim

Colorado Highway 141, what a fantastic and twisty motorcycle road that is. We Loved that Ride!
