I replaced a headlight bulb today and was all proud of myself but then after sitting down, looking at the bike and thinking about the process, a light came on in my head and said "FOOL, you gonna go thru all of that to replace one bulb when you know the other will be buring out soon....Do them both.....duh!

Don't know how the majority feel about the subject but that's an operation that should be done in pairs whenever possible.

That makes a lot of sense.

On my old Ford Escort, when the water pump needed replacing you'd always do the timing belt too, since you'd already done 99% of the labor by removing the water pump.

Same here on the old Volvo, water pump and timing belt at the same time. As to the light bulbs, I bought both but only replaced the burned out one and the other lasted another year so who knows. Fortunately other than yogic wrist moves this is a pretty easy R&R, just make sure the little wire thing is seated properly...ask me how I know ! YMMV.

Buried in headlight threads around here are several people saying they lost both bulbs at roughly the same time. I think LSUBOY's advice is spot on, even if he does come from the SEC. ;) If nothing else, you just won't have to worry about it for a few years.

Just gotta chime in. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I changed one of mine about 5 years ago and the other one is the original. 03 model with 75k on it.

I agree with the MAN from Loueziana!

and what a pain in the ass it is to get them freaking clips off the bulbs.

I'm to the point where I simply replace them every year, sell my old bulbs to a very, uhh, 'frugal' friend of mine...

Thanks Ray...I totally agree !

<Sigh...> I guess we'll have to settle this like gentlemen. Me and LSU against Ray and Bobby in a Tag Team Cage Match.

You guys wanna split the ticket revenue?

I'm with the "Ain't broke don't fix it" camp. I had an original go out last year (2005 model) so I bought two after reading about both going out at the same time, changed one and the other is still good.
