I tried searching with not a lot of success...

Has anyone ever painted there side cases; either partially or fully, with pickup truck rubberized bed liner?

I know I've seen a cpl of bikes that had it done, but I can't seem to find any info.

I *know* this has been done, I've seen it. I've seen it done on a couple Triumph Trophy's too and it looked decent.

I'm considering it as an option for my rashed bag as well.

But a google search of this site "bed liner site:fjrform.com" shows bupkis.

I've seen it on an FJR that is used for funeral escort. The bags that have the bed liner on them have special lights mounted into the back of them to help with the funeral escort service. I'm assuming that the person that owns the bike has normal bags with matching color at home, and just switches out to the covered bags when he does the funeral escort service.

Personally, I didn't like the looks of it. I guess it could be a cheap alternative to repainting a damaged sidebag though.

I kinda know a dude who painted his whole bike with it. Could not believe how bad it made it look.....it was and old pan head Harley that could have been show quality had he done things right. On the FJR bags only, it might look decent though, just don't do the whole bike.

I was thinking about painting the sidebags the same way as the Honda ST1300's sidebags look with their plastic covers.

You guys. Don't you know you're supposed to put that Rhino Liner stuff on the inside? That way, it keeps the bag liners from scratching the plastic.

For the outside, I'd go with aluminum siding.

I was thinking.......... maybe stucco.......

B.

My buddy did it to his Beemers sidecases, only because he knew he couldn't paint well enough to make it look nice. I have to say it makes it look like the bike it really is...................crap

I think MM2 did his with spray on liner. Doesn't look to bad and your boots won't scuff it up.

I painted some "protection" bed liner patches on my panniers. I've seen them completely painted with bed liner paint but I didn't like it. I wanted to protect the area that I kick with my huge feet and also the lower front that takes the most abuse from insects and gravel. Here are some photos I found in my collection.

Here's a better picture of the left side. Notice that I have a small patch on the top and a larger patch on the lower front:

A better picture of the top-patch to prevent boot scuffs:

Now that doesn't look half bad.

It wasn't easy, but I did find this old thread: Clicky

At NAFO, I saw somebody who did the entire sidebag with the stuff. It didn't look too bad IMHO.

Looked a hell of a lot better than how my bags look now:

So, I just finished masking mine off, and I'll be ready to sand and paint tomorrow.

I basically masked a line that bisects the case right at the "YAMAHA" bumper-thingy..

I'll post some pics.
