Tank will not align after lifting it.

It's pretty common when you have a full tank of fuel for the tank to settle down at the rear pivot bolt when it's raised up. I used a bungie cord hooked on the rear rack to hold the tank up when working underneath. I often undid the electrical connection to the pump and the vent lines if I wanted more room to work. When re-installing, after being careful to correctly connect to tuck down the vent lines and connect the pump wire connector, AND install the retaining clip, lowering the tank in place, I'd just hop on the bike and use my knees to nudge the tank forward so the top bolt holes would align. Super easy, leaves you both hands free to install the bolts and snug them down. Hop off and tighten the rear pivot bolt, the top bolts and re-install the rest.
