46 degrees on the 50 minute commute at 6:00 a.m.. Liner is not in and I forgot a sweatshirt. Not warm. Anyway, got the two locks from Partszilla today to install in my new helmet brackets for left and right sides. Will install this weekend, but don't have the powerlet parts yet for the optional holes I bought. Got to get ready for EOM, which means oil change but no tire change. Will run that plugged rear for all it's worth.

Remnants of Harvey rolling through the northeast today, so a good day to be wrenching.

Replaced front T30-GT EVO at 9500 miles. That tire had been noisy nearly its entire life. Last thousand miles it would cause a violent head shake if I took my hands off the bars fully (so I didn't). I might have been able to get another 1000 miles out of it, but I had its replacement in the tire shed already.

The non-EVO that I ran prior to the EVO didn't have any of those problems when I took it off at 10k miles (a bit early, just prior to EOM '16) so that's why I went back to one of those again. Still running PR2's on the back and going through one every 9k miles like clockwork.

Weather induced wrenching here too. Installed some FZ1 mirrors. Got surprised a few times recently with cages suddenly appearing close behind or beside. Figured I better improve my SA.

I installed a 2013 shock on my 2008. Took it for a quick test spin and was very happy. The 2013 OEM shock is definitely stiffer than the Gen II OEM unit.

After I get more miles on it, I'll post my thoughts on it if anyone's interested.

Walked by the 2008 several times. Panels off, Seats off, Tank up resting comfortably on a wooden stick.

Dam I want to hit 100K with this bike. I hope I can get it fixed.

CalSci medium windscreen ordered. As a windshield user since the '80's, I don't want to get beat up driving around 3000 miles for EOM and back with the factory unit. Still thinking of nursing the oem p.o.shat rear tire down and back even though the new PR4 rear is in my garage. We'll see. But I will be getting a new front Dunlop RS3 for the ride. New bike only has 4300 miles since April but have never liked the wear progression on the oem's.

Get that much done and I'll get by just fine for EOM, Georgia, Florida, and return to Maine. Next: maps versus gps

After spending my holiday weekend riding mostly either in the rain or on wet roads my front PR2 was showing wearbars pretty much the whole way around the center. I had hoped to use these yet in the Void Rally but knowing that it has rained every time we do that event I called a friend and asked how many miles are typically left in these things once those wearbars are showing. We mounted new tires last night.Lowest mileage I've gotten yet on PR2's at 10,885. That's since March of this year though.

Rode it to work this morning. At least I'm ready now for the Void and then EOM and vacation.

Took it down to SEO for a little Labor Day ride, and had a blast.

Rode it to the world's busiest airport to catch a flight to D.C.. Parking gate didn't sense the bike. Took 20 minutes waiting on someone to unscrew the equipment. Finally made it see there was a vehicle present by going forward and backward while holding the center stand down. Lines are biblical. I've got a million things going on, but an FJR in the airport parking garage when I land back home.

They would have been good for another 2K at least. Assuming normal riding and not being overly aggresive.

Rode to work today in the dark. The days are getting shorter.

Dave,

I figured probably another 1000-1500 but every year Mona and I have entered the Void Rally it has rained. I don't mean light showers either. Last year we were riding in the trailing edge of Hurricane Matthew for about 14 hours. I had planned on waiting until after the Void and changing them the weekend before EOM but discretion is the better part of valor and opted to have fresh shoes on it before the rally. We're starting in Wilkes Barre, PA which is about 2 hours from our home then whatever we ride in the Void plus the ride back home from Fredricksburg, VA to our house another 3 hour trip. Add my mileage for commuting for 2 weeks and they simply didn't inspire sufficient trust to wait that long. Frugal and dumb are 2 different animals!

Spent some time up on the BRP yesterday- lots of tar/gravel work between Roanoke, VA going south to Rocky Knob Rec Area.

Grandma looks extremely good for her age!

She had a real long nap while my kids were growing up and I pretended to be a responsible adult

Wow, that XS1100 is absolutely beautiful. I've lately really been getting into revisiting (through books and sites) classic Japanese bikes from the '70s and '80s. Probably because those are the bikes that I grew up admiring, but no other style of bike stirs my blood like that XS or a CB750 or etc. etc.

Thanks for the compliments.

RC65,

I have been fortunate to become involved with the Classic Japanese Motorcycle Club. A great group of guys enjoying the old Japanese bikes.

Additionally I've attended the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel Ca the last 3 years.

It is becoming the premier show for concourse class machines.

If you are in the area in early May I recommend you check it out.

In the meantime google search for pictures of the entrants and more about the event.

Here is a nice link...

I was thinking along the same lines and would be very interested in your assessment. Not really wanting to go the big buck aftermarket shock route.
