helmet holders

I looking for some kind lock to hold my full face helmet, I like the one that attaches to the license plate. Does anyone have one of these or something better?

Yep, the side case. Fits right in there and locks with a key. No one even knows it is in there. (And the other one can hold a passengers helmet)

Givi top case I hear can hold two helmets at a time.

Why would I want my helmet hanging upside down getting rained on or waiting for some punk with a knife to cut the strap and walk off with it?

For those of us with really fat heads, our helmets can't fit in the side case.

Don't hang your helmet upside down. Set it right side up on the seat and secure it with a short piece of vinyl covered steel wire cable.

Oh, yeah, they don't lock. I keep forgetting people live in areas where you can't leave the key in the bike while you go into WalMart for tampons and shampoo.

Really? My XL Shoei X-11 fits fine. Try turning yours around in the sidecase.

A good buddy of mine lives in Panama City and I wouldn't be leavin' my key in my bike if I wuz you.

There's an easy solution for Gen 1 owners. I've had many satisfied customers over the years. Can still make these if there's any interest. Sorry, never worked out a design for the slower gen2 bikes.

A few months ago I purchased a 1/2 inch steel cable w/ plastic covering from Harbor Freight about 4 feet long. I keep it wound around the license plate and use it to lock down both my helmet and Cycleport jacket via the luggage bar. Though it's not theft proof the thick cable and a good-size padlock is a deterrent to a thief without cable cutters.

I purchased two goldwing helmet locks (with the key - that's important) from e-bay for about $20. Each has two bolts that screw in from the back.

I was thinking about mounting them to one of the saddlebags, but I don't always ride with them on. There's not a lot of other solid panels or exposed metal framework on the bike to bolt them on. Might be able to get them on the license plate bracket, but am worried about the hot pipes (I know, I know "google search helmet lock and exhaust pipes").

Hopefully I can get them rekeyed to to match my key.

Any other suggestions as to where to mount one of them?

My problem with most of the multitude of helmet locking schemes is it is dependant on locking the helmet strap's D-ring. A cheap steak knife would saw through that strap in a few quick seconds. Luckily for me I don't use a $500 helmet, Guess I only have a $100 head? :blink:

Anyway... that is why, if I can't get it into the side bag for some reason, I kind of like the cable locks (like I showed above) that loop through the chin bar on the helmet(s). Yeah, a pair of bolt cutters would snip that steel wire cable, but unless you are intentionally out hunting helmets, who is going to be carrying one of those around?

Best defense may be wearing a really ugly helmet.

Once the straps are cut, the helmet is useless to anyone, including the thief.

I personally use the brackets from TownsendFJR1300 with the two locks that came with a Helmet Guardian bracket, was able to have the locks re-keyed to use my ignition key (one key-all locks).

Unless they have the ability and 10 minutes to sew on some 1" strap from any fabric store.

Gen 1 owners can remove the front seat and hook the D-ring to the tab on the lower left rear of the gas tank. Re-install the seat and the helmet is locked.

I used a pair of similar locks from JC Whitney and mounted them to the rear fender on the flat part on either side of the license plate light. Works very well for me and when used with one helmet it never touches the muffler, the chinbar rests on the rear reflector. Two helmets are good if you're careful but not a problem.

Really? Can't the straps be replaced? I assumed they were just riveted in place.

In the case of an expensive helmet, if you had a faulty strap / buckle on an otherwise new bucket, would you expect to have to throw it away?

I honestly do not know as I've never been in a position to replace the strap(s).

Have the helmet guardian. Had I known about Townsend's option, would of gone that route. Nothing wround with the helmet guardian other than I really don't like the helmets touching the tailpipe. If you search on my screen name you will find posts from others that state there is no effect on the helmet such as melting and such.

Don't like the idea of locking the helmets to the seat with cable as they can and will blow off here and crash to the ground. Not a good thing.

As my Dad used to say, "Locks are for honest theives". If someone wants it, they will take it.
