Add Ga to the list of the banned. Was in the 70's here in NW Ga all weekend. Wife and I went on a nice 80 mile run on Saturday after picking up around daughter formt he airport (home from college for xmas break) and then today, my father and I went for a nice ride in some twisties.
To be honest, I'd like to see the rain they were getting in Washington or even some of that damn white stuff. Anything that will add back ot the water levels here. So box that shit up and send it down and I'll box up since warm weather to send back.

All you gotta do is learn to recycle your toilet water. After a while you'll get used to it.

Several years ago, I went home for lunch and turned on the noon o'clock news. The weatherman said it was raining in Chico. I thought, no it's not, I was just outside. I went outside to check and sure enough the blue skies I had just enjoyed were still blue! Not a cloud to be seen anywhere.

Actually, there are a few grades around here with some curves! Very few, but some! lol Walked out from work and damn if it wasn't 80 degrees out! I started to sweat, damn it! Yabbut, what all you warm weather Nancy-boys are missing out on is the extreme thrill and gratification that can only come after being deprived of the joy of riding for 3 or 4 or 5 months, then finally getting out on the road on a fine spring day. It is pure exuberance I tell ya... :yahoo:

And then there's the best of both worlds (when we have more snow in the mountains) -- world class skiing an hour away, PLUS motorcycling and golf year round here. Living at 1200 feet in California** in the Sierra foothills, the summit is an hour away via interstate highway, with several world class ski areas and lots of backcountry area to play in. The Pacific Ocean is about 2 hours away. We get the occasional dusting of snow here, but it melts off within a few hours. So, motorcycle riding, golf and much more are available year round (even if some of our favorite routes may await the spring thaw).

** Remember, however that we are a colony of lunatics on the fringe and most of our flatlanders can't drive worth a crap in the snow, so unless you're a native of California or already here, you DEFINITELY need to stay put in yer beautiful lands of origin.

Oklahoma City was hit hard. Alot of trees busted down from the ice and wind. Okla. City weather pics. It was the same storm that came through Ca./west coast last week. 60deg. in northern Ca. today bright and sunny. What am I doing here, should be riding. Winter of 84 was the worst. Ice everywhere and we lived in the country. Took me 3 hours to drive the 30 minute commute home. No power for a week, so had the kerosine heater running to keep the house warm while the wife and kids went to her parents house about 150 miles south. The photo above was what it looked like everywhere over our densely-wooded acerage. Trees bent and breaking. Without power, there were no motors running in the house (heater, fridge, etc.) so it was damned quiet. At night there was no lighting, so bed time came early... to fall asleep to the sounds of trees cracking and breaking. Eventually the rural electric co-op got power going again, but it was something to remember.

Makes me glad that we get... MAYBE... a couple of days of snow and/or ice and seldom even a week below 32°F (where we now live). I sometimes begrudge the summer heat, but not when reminded of the misserable winters I endured as a kid.

Mom just called. The large tree in her back yard snapped in half last night. Each half fell to the gound. One missed the utility lines into her house the other missed her roof. Others in the area haven't been as fortunate.

Blizzard of '68...

My, sonny, that Nor'easter was the Mother of All Storms! How the snow was pouring from the skies, the wind was a howlin' and temps dropped below zero throughout the night. Heatin' oil man couldn't make his rounds, so the heat was the first to go. Tried to make a run for some cord wood that we had stacked out back the shed, but when we got there, we found nothing... Neighborhood gangs had stolen it as they pillaged the area for their own gain. Then, the heavy snow took out trees and downed power lines. No heat, no electricity, we huddled by the lone candle mom found in the kitchen junk drawer. Dad just barely made it in the drive and sadly, was unable to stop and get us any food for the night. We had to go hungry.

My brother forgot to let Spot, the family dog, back in from the outside. We found him weeks later, buried under the snow, frozen stiff. Sigh, had we only known his fate, we may have had something to eat that terrible night and maybe my kid sister would have survived, too. Poor thing. As it was, the lack of water from the pipes freezing was bad enough, but with no food, the little kid had no chance.

Anyway, the next morning dawned and my brother and I slugged our way to school in waste deep snow crusted by 1" of ice that fell as the temps rose back into the 30's. It was a 5 mile walk. Uphill. We still had no food in our bellies, but mom was insistent about getting to school for some proper book learnin'.

Yep, thems were the good ole days!

I just came in from scraping and scooping 1/2" of ice off of a larger than average driveway and the sidewalks. An hour and a half! Thought I'd get a workout in today, but not like that.

I take it you are riding the bike everyday?

It was nine freaking degrees when I got on the FJR to come to work today. And when I got here I could not turn my bike off, the ignition froze on with the key in it. It was the first time I ever had to pour water on a key to unfreeze it from the bike. I guess I should get off my butt and order the stuff I need to install the hand guards if I am going to riding when it is this cold.

I am okay with the snow at the lake, but last week I got caught in the snow between Reno and Carson City and it sucked.
