Steve, You might also want to consider flying up to Anchorage and renting a bike up there. There are a lot of threads discussing AK trips on the advrider.com web site and some discussion of rentals too (e.g. BMW/VStrom rentals. That would be a tempting way for me to go if/when I do AK.

Actually the radiation level at Trinity site has declined to normal. The sand that got melted into glass, now called Trinity glass, does have some increased radiation but not enough to worry about unless maybe you ground it up and ate it.

30 mpg? 30 mpg? That's terrible. I've never gotten less than 44 mpg on either of my FJRs and even that low mpg was at some, ahem, spirited riding in Nevada.

My thoughts precisely! They are coming out with a fenda extenda for the new Tiger so that's a good thing. A bash plate that would attach to the SW Mototech crash bars probably isn't too far in the future either.

The new Tiger is the same weight, 436#, as the DL650.
